Chris,

The carbon back was an experiment.  I know that stiff and heavy is
conventional wisdom, but I wanted to try stiff and light.  And I happened
to have the carbon composite laying around.  Carbon fiber is stiffer than
steel, but much lighter.  I haven't used the saw much except for a few test
cuts, but I intend to try it for dovetails soon.  Just from the test cuts,
I like it.
