John Leeke (http://historichomeworks.com/) is a treasury of information. Used
to be an Old House Journal editor. I know him from an Old house list (now dead)
that was like a smaller version of this place for a time (Scott G was on it
too), from his visits to Lincoln where he grew up, and from a workshop I went to
years ago. He does a lot with old windows but knows way more than that. There
is also a good book (actually two but they are similar and one looks to be a
revision of the other) on Renovating Old Houses by George Nash. I'm a bit more
of a stickler for authenticity than he is in many places (ask me about replacing
our block basement foundation), but he is pretty sensible and gives a good
overview. And then of course there are the many actual old carpentry books by
authors like Hodgson and Hasluck.
