271874 Scott Garrison <scottbgarrison@g...> 2020‑10‑05 Saw Till Completed
So I finally "completed" completed my saw till over the weekend. Many years
ago I made the till portion capable of holding my saws, but I am renowned
for getting a job to 80% completion and just moving on. My wife claims it
to be an Aries trait...I don't know but I do struggle with it so I made a
goal during this Covid thing to attempt getting a number of my
semi-completed jobs all the way through. So I was able to add the dividers
and drawer units to the bottom (formerly a single open shelf) and get
everything painted up. The wood is southern yellow pine deadfall from my
yard that I cut years ago with a chainsaw mill and the drawer fronts are an
old red oak tabletop that I hung onto as scrap for projects. The knobs,
Bradford pear that also came from my yard. When the drawer fronts were done
I saw how important it is to match grain - as if I wasn't already aware of
that. But my drawer fronts looked so much like S#$t as the grain was all
over the place that I was left with no choice but to add a few coats of
black milk paint to go with the green milk paint (my shop colors). The
black was coated with BLO whereas the green was shellacked with some old
amber shellac just shy of spoiling. I wanted to "age" the green a bit - I
like the look. For the most part this was all done galootish and I left
many of the plane marks. In fact I didn't even attempt to smooth plane the
interior panels.

But I can safely say it is good to complete a project 100% - there is no
little brain "chad" irritating you if you will. Pics here -
