You’re probably thinking of New Zealand Kauri; https://en.wikipedia.org

Kauri has been salvaged from bogs.

Not to be confused with West Australian Karri; https://en.wikipedia.org
/wiki/Eucalyptus_diversicolor">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eucalyptus_diversic
olor en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eucalyptus_diversicolor>

Both beautiful timbers.

New Zealanders, and West Australians may disagree, but Kauri is pronounced Cow-
re. And Karri is pronounced Car-re. Or at least they are here in Melbourne
Australia.

I’ve just realised there’s some Canadian viewers on the list who will now mangle
the Cow part of that pronunciation. Who knows what a Yorkshireman could do with
them!

If only English as spoken around the world could be pronounced correctly as it
is here in Melbourne. Oh well.
