A Saw Bench was discussed in a recent issue of Pop. Woodworking. A nice
one=2C too. IIRC=2C the article talked about features without giving
exact dimensions=2C and gave a URL for an actual plan. (Which=2C no
doubt=2C will become a "dead link" sooner or later !)

The current discussion of saw storage suggests that the panel saws ought
to hang from their handles rather than rest on their handles. Maybe that
could be the jump-off point? Not too many years ago=2C I found a saw
chest at a flea market for $15. Its not the most beautiful thing I've
ever seen=2C but it gets the job done. Holds a dozen saws in alternating
directions. The ends of this chest are squares. I think it would have
looked much more attractive=2C and held more saws=2C if the ends were
"golden rectangles". Here's my take: the group project should be a saw
chest which also hangs vertically on the wall on french cleats as a
cabinet. Somehow or other=2C details not yet worked out=2C the saws
alternate and when it's on the wall=2C the ones with the handle up are
hanging and the ones with the handle down are on a cross-dowel. Or=2C
maybe the panel saws hang and the backsaws are interspersed with their
handles down. Whatever we design=2C a criterion should be that it can go
to the job site and not just hang on the wall.John Ruth Metuchen=2C NJ
