Welcome (again) Walt.
Glad to hear that your Big C has been converted to No C. A good friend
of mine who happens to be a skilled Windsor chair maker was just
diagnosed with the same thing and fortunately, as with you, they caught
it early. His only concern, happily, is about the amount of shoptime
he'll lose recovering from the operation. May your energy and zest
return with wild abandon.
Sorry to hear of your son. Thank you for his service and the honor with
which he rendered it.
This Porch is a funny (odd, Jeff) place made up of "all kinds". As
freely I can admit to cutting hundreds of dovetails in my life and give
them no thought whatsoever when taking on a new project, so too can I
admit to being absolutely flummoxed when it comes to turning. I've only
done it once in my "career" and the results where less than stellar
(designer firewood as you say). So too do I come here to get inspired
and learn and share. Maybe someday I'll get my turning Jones on, tune up
some old tools beyond butter knife sharpness, and go to it.
Take care,
Rick Yochim
In soon to be snowy Virginia.
