BugBear tells of a jack plane where " The maker's name has been chiselled off, w
hich is odd." And, the "body had a remarkable 1/6 bannana warp in it."

Odd indeed, but all too common, unfortunately. Not surprising that you
picked it up in a car boot sale -- sounds like you've picked up a plane
used by the criminal woodworking element. They are known to file or
chisel off the maker's mark so that the weapon, I mean plane, can't be
traced. These are typically sold in cash-only, back-alley or car boot
deals, with no record of the transaction. And the mention of a banana
clip makes it sound suspiciously like an assault jack, perhaps modified
from the normal jack. Does it produce multiple shavings with a single
push?

It's a bit surprising that it has a long toe -- usually, these guys favor
a short toe, sometimes called a sawed-off jack. Makes it easier to
conceal.

Regards,
Joe
