Hi, I heard that it brought $1100 ... this was secondhand from someone who
had a bid in on it.

Okay, I'll bite: What is a Panther saw?

-- Andrew, who now, of course, wants one.

If you can get your hands on a February 1991 Smithsonian there is an
article about the sick individuals that COLLECT TOOLS. It was the first
hint I had that I was not alone in my affliction. It legitimized my lusts.
It is a great article with lots of neat pictures. On page 63 is the
Woodrough & McParlin panther head saw. At the very top of the wooden handle
where it intersects with the blade is the carved head of a panther, facing
into the blade. The text on page 58 describes Chad Palmers saw as "one of
just six such saws known to exist from W&P's 1866-81 production run. Like
the others, this one has the a snarling panther's head cut into the curling
tail of the saw handle. It was a priceless and thrilling discovery. But
best of all it was his."

Chuck Zitur educates us on Panther saws......

and I'm first in line for a great new niche product...

I would like it known that this is a firm and definite order for the
IT Panther saw, when available, and you chaps had better form an
 orderly Q.

Why be a copycat? Let's do something original like an aardvark or a llama.

While a panther saw handle (where the blade is, I don't know)
resides in ITCo's inner sanctum, there are no plans to produce
one.

Just say To my eye, it looks more like a gargoyle than a panther.

Was there ever any doubt that this would be so?

The problem is not artificial intelligence,
it's natural stupidity. O-

Quite honestly I'm shocked. I would've thunk that the MofA took
better care of his tools. ;-)

Paul

Just say, Sorry. At least I edited severely.

Hi,

The panther saw was made by Woodrough and McParlin (sp) of Cincinatti... The
main feature was a panther head carved on each side on the front of the
handle by the blade.
