Ive been woodworking for a few years mostly with power tools. I'm
interested in some of the things hand planes can do better than power
planing, jointing and sanding. I would also like to be able to do
dovetails. I'm interested in furniture making and have made only small
pieces to date. I have an old plane that was my Grandpa's. There are no
markings of any kind that I can tell. It appears to be the size of a
smoothing plane 2" wide, 9" long, 1 3/4" width blade. No adjustable frog
or depth knob or lateral lever. No chip breaker. The 'frog/sole/cheeks'
are one casting. The Lever cap has a finger screw instead of a cam for
tension on the iron. Should I try to use this tool? Thanks alot and I
look forward to learning about hand tools.
