File racks can be a good approach for those of us who have both a surplus of
unused wall space and a desire to cover it up. I don’t have either one, so most
of my file storage is on edge in a tool cabinet drawer, with the file handles
holding them apart. Small files are in a canvas tool roll, and my most used
files at the bench are stored by hanging their handles on a few pegboard hooks.
My unused saw files are mostly in their original manufacturer’s boxes, the used
ones are in either a cloth holder or a wooden holder. Wherever files are
stored, they shouldn’t be banging teeth-upon-teeth with adjacent files or hard
metal objects, as that isn’t good for keeping the teeth sharp and effective.
