What I found most interesting in the video is that the axis of the lathe is
north south, rather than what I assume is the universal east west axis.

I don't woodturn, so I can't comment on the benefits one way or the other.

It's almost as if the maker had heard of the concept of the lathe, and
having not seen an example, made the axis north south.
