Summer 2017 Jacktown Steam Engine Show & Flea Market
The summer 2017 Jacktown Steam Engine Show & Flea Market was supposed to
kick off yesterday but thanks or no thanks to a generous donation from
the rain gods, things really didn't get started until today. Needless
to say, there was mud. The temp when I got there a little before 7:00
AM was around 70F and it wasn't much higher when I left before 9:00, but
the 120% humidity didn't help things much. But the place was really
filling up when I left.
Early glow over the show area.

There are always neat machines in the show area and this little tracked
beast caught my attention

Pickings were fairly good today, although a bit on heavy side of
things. I got a Bell System style pointed pointed peen hammer, big cast
iron cobblers hammer, a Hammond No. 4 cobblers hammer, blacksmith drift
punch, couple of straight peen hammers, a little old 5 1/2 lb blacksmith
cross peen hammer, and three pairs of blacksmith tongs. Anyone want to
take a guess at how much the old knapsack weighed??

There were lots of machinist tools around and I grabbed a few. There is
a Starrett divider and inside calier with the quick set nut, a somewhat
ratty looking 18" combination square that was cheap enough to see if it
will clean, Brown & Sharp V-block with clamp, a rare Starrett WW2 era V
level (specialty military item), a user crafted bevel edge square dated
1939, a long Bemis & Call divider, a Union Tool divider and inside
caliper, and a Van Norman Per-Fect O boring bar micrometer with the box.

Woodworking tools were around but most were priced pretty much at what I
can sell them for or too close to bother with. I did get a Taylor
Patent iron brace that will clean up nicely, a pair of General trammel
points with the box, jewelers hand vise, Stanley No. 750 chisel blade,
gun maker's hand vise, a Stanley brad awl, a Snell No. 4 screw starter
bit, 3 gimlet bits to add to the pile, and a funky Bernard patent
pliers, the round jaws have slightly hollow faces.

Now the fun really begins....
Tony (let's just say that the old back will be feeling this load
tomorrow...)
