Today was the kick off for the summer Jacktown Steam Engine Show. This
is a three day show, but there were vendors and show folks there as of
yesterday. I dragged out early and made it there by 7:00 AM. Traffic
wasn't too bad heading in. The weather is calling for very hot (over
90F) today. It was around 70F when I got there with the humidity to
match. Yesterday's rains made for a few muddy spots, but the heavy dew
made for shoe soaking kinda morning.
Firing it up early in the morning.

Pickings weren't too bad. Nothing off the charts but still a decent
run. A number of vendors hadn't set up yet when I got there. There is
a user crafted sash fillester plane, a set of 1/2" tongue and groove
planes by J Lovell of Cummington MA (2 star maker in terms of rarity),
wood scraper plane with a brass sole, pair of wood spoke shaves, set 3
offset gun stock carving tools made in Germany, and a German chisel for
making cabinet hinge mortises,

From the department of old and rusty, there is a hand forged eel gig, a
bodger's draw knife hand forged from an old file, a big cooper's bung
auger also made from a while, an early carpenter's adze head, and a pair
of blacksmith anvil hardies.

Long early hand forged pot hook, Stanley No. 984 corner brace, a small
awl, possibly a Stanley, pair of early Stanley bevel squares that need
some work, a clean 6" Millers Falls combination square, a Stanley SW No.
36 1/2 carpenter's caliper rule, a neat old Pat Pend multi tool that
needs some de-painting, a P. S. & W. patented C-clamp, and a jewelers
cross peen hammer with the original handle.

Let me add, the old knapsack used for these larger events was pretty
darn heavy. The ride back was fraught with road construction, idiot
drivers, along with a couple of kamikaze white tail deep. Sigh... I
will be heading back tomorrow for a clean up pass.
Tony (lets just say on these tips, the destination definitely wins out
over the journey)
