257006 William Ghio <bghio@m...> 2015‑11‑22 Mid_Atlantic Galoots met up yesterday
...and a good time was had by all. We yacked like a bunch of old hens; looked at
many chisels handles for inspiration; turned a few handles; and played at lathe
tool sharpening issues. Then someone brought up saw nibs and everyone else
ducked and ran.

Present were John White, Gary Caron, Steve Reynolds, Charlie Driggs, Tom Dugan,
Tom Price, Ed Minch, Sam Pickens and yours truly. Charlie brought a half dozen
chisels and burnishers that had been re-handled by Jim Thompson and we all got
to see what a talented turner Jim was. I don’t think any we turned came out
nearly as well. We did both socketed and tanged chisels and demonstrated (at
least for me) the superiority of burning the tang in as opposed to step
drilling. Gary brought his treadle jig saw for us to try. I am one who could
never dance and my footworks skills were similarly deficient in getting that
durn saw to dance. Gary, on the other hand, could really make her swing.

It was a good day, but you will have to take my word for it ‘cause I forgot to
pull out my camera and I don’t think anybody else did either.
