when machining and welding I use abrasive flapper disks and a wire
brush in my 4 1/2" grinder to remove the black mill scale
It's harder than steel and abrasive and hard on your HSS cutting tools
so I remove it before machining. Mill scale also doesn't make a
reliable base for paint or take bluing.
