I've seem some silly identifications, but "stove hammer?!"
And why would anyone need a hammer for a stove, anyway?

Tony's got it -- just about the definitive example of a cooper's adz.
A little more specific, an English or American cooper's adz. Those
used on the Continent share the curve and short handle, but are 
otherwise
rather different.
