Welcome Martin!

5 euros for a Spiers coffin smoother - that was a great deal.
If you find any more, let me know. I will gladly pay postage.

I think I remember a site for someone close to you; he had
a lot of chisels: http://www.dutchtools.net/ but I imagine that
his stock changes. (I have no business relationship with him
other than a customer).

We're glad to have you on the list,

Hello, Martin. Glad to have you aboard. Always glad to hear from our
euro spending brethern on the other side of the pond.

My last and only visit to Holland was in May of 1956, and the canals
were all still frozen solid.

Hello people of the porch after been lurking at the old tools archive
(watch it everyday) and read all the posts.
I was first listed through yahoo but was unable to sent messages so i
hope this one gets posted.
I am also registered at Richmond tool group. And got my first mail from
Bill Taggert he also said that i try the oldtools list.
My name is Martin i am 40 years and i am married and have two boys age 8
and 12 i live in Heemskerk the Netherlands and work in Amsterdam as a
teacher furniture making at the oldest furniture craftsschool in the
netherlands which was founded in 1928.
I am en ex student from this school where i have been trained as an
furniture restorer which has been my proffesion for allmost 10 years and
the last 5 years i am working fulltime as an teacher but i do occasional
a small restoration job for relativesor family.
My passion is collecting functional woodworking tools and i am searching
the internet for info on tools.
I am also a member of the Dutch toolcollectors organisation called
ambacht en gereedschap.
Visit it at: www.ambachtengereedschap.nl i also collect furniture
reference books and tool books.
And books about furniture restoration. The pride of my tool collection
is an spiers coffin style smoother from around 1885/1890 which i bought
at the big freemarket at queensday in Amsterdam (a big jumble sale)
where i had to pay 5 euro's. This type of plane has been on my wantlist
for a long time and i could hardly believe my eyes.
This was an great day my friends who where with me allmost started
dripping when they saw my find.
I also found a stanley 51 and 55 spokeshave marked with the rule and
level logo.
I also try to bring the love for handwork and classic handtools on to my
students at home i work mostly with handtools which will make no noise.
I am not a purist but love the way a well tuned tool does the work.
The last tool i bought was 2 weeks ago it is an chamfer spokeshave from
stanley no. 65 marked with the s-w. Logo.
I would like to discuss wiht the other members on topics like
restoration and ethics and tool restoration.
So hope to hear from you.
Greetings, Martin

Welcome Martin. There are other members from the Netherlands. You can find them
on the subscriber list (go from http://ruckus.law.cornell.edu/mailman/listinfo/o
ldtools and use your password). It lists email addresses of all members (search
for '.nl').

Tool collecting in the Netherlands must be much more fun than in
Germany, because your tools are more beautiful and the toolmaking
history is much longer. I'm also a member of A&G and of TATHS, both of
them great organisations.

I'm looking forward to your contributions to the list.

Wolfgang (at holzwerken.de)
