Hello (again) Genteel Galoots and SGFH!
This bio may be a couple months late, but I wanted to lurk a while
just to make sure you folks were on the up and up.
Thanks for all the online and offline support you've given me,
(I'm not worthy)
I'm 46 y.o., an Electronic Technician by trade (see, I told you I wasn't
worthy!)
I've got a strange sense of humor.
SWMBO and I moved here to Pine Island, MN last year. What really sold me
on this house was the (guessing) 20x20 shop and additional garage stall
attached
to the side of the main garage.
Here is my best gloat (so far?) SWMBO gave me on our Wedding day (3
years ago)
a 1942 1.5 Ton Ford truck with box and hoist! Unfortunately it is still
600 miles from
here and when it eventually gets here, it needs a lot of TLC (brakes,
wiring, body work,
paint, glass, etc). It runs, and the emergency brake stops it (eventually).
With such a nice sized shop, I've bought a quite a few woodworking toys
this past year
(yes, the biggest ones are *l*ctr*c and most with the $*ars name).
I've always liked "fixin' thangs" and viewed each repair job as an
opportunity to buy
another tool. But that (don't say it) got a bit out of hand this past year.
An interesting note:
When we moved in, the former owner said I could keep the saw hanging on the
shop wall. He said he'd bought it as a trainer for his sons. A $7
price was/is
still glued to the side of the blade. It is dull, but my what a lovely
handle and sawnuts!
It (Disston) is obviously older than my other handsaws, though it has
rust and pits on
the sides of the blade, mostly obscuring the trademark etches. The
handle (a reddish
brown wood with yellow streaks) is large enough to fit my hand without
the upper "ear"
digging into the web between my thumb and forefinger. As someone mentioned
previously on the porch, the old handles were comfortable because a
carpenter may
need to use them all day. I'm looking forward to getting that baby
sharpened!
Tomorrow a lathe w/tools is being offered at a farm auction. I want to
be there just in case
it goes to this bottom feeder. Tonight as I drove home I saw a dumpster
with a bunch
of plywood in it. Once I started brousing, I realized the plywood
wasn't worth a second
look, but I'm planning to go back and get the 5'x16' oak pallet! (Maybe
now I'll start
carrying pry-bar, hammer and saw in my vehicle to be ready to
dissasemble such
finds.)
Say, is any of that lemonade left?, all this talk has dried my throat.
