For Sale: September 2002

Good afternoon from rainy Connecticut. The following items are sold SOT to
all those with a posted bio.  If you don't have a current bio we'll work
something out.

PLANES:

P1) Stanley 78 Rabbet/Filletster.  Complete with the fence and depth stop.
Most of the japanning remains.  Blade still has a lot of life left.

CHISELS:

C1) Large Craftsman 2" beveled-edge chisel.  The Craftsman logo dates to
pre-1940.  Possibly made by Witherby.. looks like a quality chisel,  Just
needs a new handle. The blade measures 6" long, with the socket it
measures 9".

C2) Buck Brothers 5/8" bevel-edge chisel, good solid handle, no pitting on
the back, just need to be reground.

C3) Pair of Stanley #60 chisels.  Everlast-stlye chisels with metal
end-caps, these chisels can really take a beating.  One measures 1" and
the other 1/2".  Besides some paint splatters not in bad shape.

C4) Stanley 1/4" Everlast chisel.  Sweetheart era with three patent dates
on the socket. Handle is solid and the end cap is in good shape.  The
chisel is 8" long with over 3" of life left..

C5) EC Muller #48 graver's chisel. marked "48 E.C. Muller N.Y. #"

SAWS:

S1) Disston K-5 Keystone Defender 8TPI 28" crosscut saw.  Top of the
Keystone line, in fine shape.  Solid handle and bright clear etc, dead
straight.

S2) New England Saw Company.  I can't find any documentation on this
maker, but this is a high-quality saw.  26" 5TPI rip, skew-back.  Apple
handle has no chips or cracks.  Blade is straight, but has some staining,
no rust or pitting though.  Beautiful etch of an eagle with two American
flags.  Blade has a great "ring" to it.  Fine user.

S3) Atkins #54 panel saw.  Dark blade with a clear etch.  Handle looks
like apple, with a sunken medallion.  There is a tight crack in the handle
which has been repaired, top horn is chipped.  The blade has a slight wave
about 1/3 of the way down, but it's not kinked so it can be worked out.

S4) Jennings 22" panel saw.  Blade is straight, but has a very dark
patina.  scattered pitting, but not too bad.  Blade is 10TPI and has a
nib. Handle is beech and has no cracks or splits.  Needs sharpening, but
would make a good user.

WOODEN PLANES:

WP1) #1 skewed hollow-  Marked C. Mayne, 1/8" width of cut.  A pretty rare
size, especially with a skewed blade.  Wedge fits very well, mouth is
tight.

WP2) A.G. Moore #10 round.  Very nice shape, save a hang-hole. This plane
didn't have a blade when I found it so I made one out of O1, hardened and
tempered it, so it's ready to use.  Very nice maker's stamp as can be seen
in the pictures.

WP3) Snipe Bill plane. This plane has a faint maker's mark at the toe, but
I can't make it out, but it starts with "R".  Boxing is in good shape
where it matters, in the throat.  There are some chips in the boxing at
the heel and toe.  Wedge fits well.

MISC:

M1) Stanley Marking Gauge.  Newer gauge marked # 47-061. Pin has plenty of
length and would make a good user.

M2) Nice mallet, weighs about 2lbs, and is looks like oak or hickory with
a nice burl head. Initials "MHD" stamped in the head.

M3) John Walter's "Antique and Collectable Stanley Tools" 2nd edition.
Unused condition.  Full price guide to the entire Stanley line, also
includes essential type studies. Out of print.  Last on I saw on the 'bay
went for over  $120

M4) Yankee #30A screwdriver.  North Brothers tool, pre-Stanley. Nice shape
with all the nickel plating. Moves freely and includes one bit.

M5) E.C. Stearns #7 jointer fence. This is a fixer-upper.. The main
casting is broken where the fence joins the casting, as seen in the third
picture.  This could be fixed or used for parts.  Almost all japanning and
nickel plating remains.  All three clamps and the knob are still there.

M6) 6" Rosewood and brass square. Unmarked, rosewood has a nice grain
pattern, and will clean up very well.
