Hi there One and All: This is my first venture onto the porch (as he looks left and right for big dogs). My name is Doug Evans. I am an old tool enthusiast, a plane maker (President, Shepherd Tool Co.,www.shepherdtool.com) and a Mechanical Engineer (don’t hold it against me). I am in my early forties and have been collecting tools a few years now – pretty intensely, primarily British. From time to time, I write stories and have been known to post some of these on the Pond (watching for reactions - none noted- carry on). With my business partner Ben Knebel, I plan to write a book about British Tools and Trades someday. I first dabbled in woodworking with a part time wooden boat business and this led to an old tools fetish. The condition is worsening. I live in Fergus, Ontario, Canada. My wife's name I Joanne and I have a young son, Ashlar. I look forward to this adventure. Is this chair taken and could we trouble you for some iced tea perchance? A Galootish voice from way up North is heard to say: >Hi there One and All: > >This is my first venture onto the porch (as he looks left and right for >big dogs). My name is Doug Evans. I am an old tool enthusiast, Oh, now THAT'S something new! |

You would think it would be kind o' galootish to fashion our spittoon out of C905 (gunmetal), but hey, the contents do not taste like iced tea, so why quibble with brass. Oh... it needs a little lime does it? Wiping my mouth confidently... I lean back against a baluster that seems to have moved two feet to the right and topple over the edge. In Don Knotts fashion, I scramble back up over the edge and confront astonished looks muttering something about testing safety regulations. Yesirree... I'm in with the in crowd now... no bout adoubt it! This is going to be just grate. They laughin wit ya? they laughin at ya? they laughin? grinnin? dead??? So what's the skinny on the spittoon? Say a bad thing - you win a keg o' brasso? Help a porely lad from Fergus t'understand yore ways... Did anyone mention the others yet? How about the one regarding tool makers, where they're supposed to offer 50% discounts on their products to other list members for the first 6 months? And with the conversion rate from Canadian to American, that's like, 75% off, right?
