Hey Mick,

Nice find on the No.5 back saw. I have one example of a No.4 with the
Dec. 8, 1874 Reagan patented handle. Pretty comfortable handle to hold
actually, although the design permits you to wrap your index finger around
the front instead of resting it along the side like we've been taught to do.
;^)

This handle was mainly used on the Disston No.9 back saw but I've
always assumed this was an option when ordering a No.4 or No.5
back saw.

I needed to make a version of this handle for a 16" No.9, that I had
purchased a few years back, with a handle that was all but gone.
It sat until a gentleman in New England wanted me to make a left
hand version for him and sharpen a few saws. This was a good
opurtunity to make two handles at once. Here's a picture of the
No.4 he sent me along with the original handle and below is the
one I made for the No.9 back saw.

Here's a picture of the two No.9's I have with the Reagan patented handle.

If anyone is at all interested, this is a link to quite a few pictures with
some showing the handle making process.

Take care,

Would it be possible for one of you galoots with a Reagan to post a tracing
of it?
Steve
Who is thinking that this might be a project that might get finished in less
than a month.

Steve and All...

Sooner or later I will organize these into maker and type. For now
(links will likely change as I flesh out and organize) the link to the
main category page is:

http://www.wenzloffandsons.com/faq/36-saw-kit-tech/71-handsaw-
patterns.html

The Reagan No.9 is at the bottom. There were 3 sizes. This is of the
largest size handle and I will add the other two sizes as time permits.
And I will be uploading more of other makers and models. I probably have
a couple hundred, some of which may not be of interest and won=E2=80=99t
make it. However, should anyone have pictures of a must have handle they
would like to have patterns made up, it only takes me a couple minutes
if the pictures are decent. Best to have full-side, full-frame views.
But I can work from crappy ones if they are of an interesting handle.
Please note any pictures sent to me may be made by me at some point in
the future for gain, and will make it into this repository.

Take care, Mike

Daryl, Steve, Mike, other members of the Reagan Patented Handle interest
sub group.

I've posted a couple of more pics taken against a 1 cm grid. Apologies
if you don't yet speak metric. Overall length and height in Pounds,
Shillings, and pence is 6 and 7/8 inches, X 4 and 3/4 inches.

Pics here; http://tinyurl.com/4ua9mkh

No patent date on mine.

Daryl. Nice new handles. Other than them being obviously new, they look
like they could have come out of the Disston factory.
