278630 Old Lou <mill15716athollow@g...> 2024‑07‑13 Is there a doctor in the house or a tool restorer?
Hello All,
I have an old and rare wood working plane that has only half the tote, it
is a thick piece of rosewood and unfortunately I do not have similar
rosewood and my power tools are not accessible. Does anyone know of a good
and reasonable tool restorer?
As always, thank you all.
Brother Lou

Hello,

Birdsill Holly! Nice. A search on "Birdsill Holly Patented Jointer" will bring
up images to use as a guide.

I know people who fix cracked totes but no one making them from scratch. It
seems making a new tote would be quick work for any of the many indie saw
makers.

Too sunny in Chantilly,

It seems making a new tote would be quick work for any of the many indie
saw makers. Its only quick work when someone else is doing it. lol Saw
handles are not that quick. Some guys make it seem like it, but they
aren't. I carve plane totes when I want. A meeting of the minds over
what is expected and what is reasonable would need to be reached.
Postage both ways is not going to be anything to overlook either. I am
basically at the Pacific Ocean and Lou, aren't you in Florida as I
recall? yours scott

I thought the partial handle looked familiar and the Bode handle really
rang some bells. I _think_ bugbear posted an image of a very similar
handle at one point, and found a pic, but oocities is not responding at
the moment, hence the extremely long urls that will hopefully work:
