239013 "ASRA-Eduardo De Diego" <ed@a...> 2013‑05‑13 RE: Chance encounter with a saw painter
Problem is that folks actually BUY this stuff, whether it's from a craft
fair vendor (30$) or an internationally recognized "artist" (3000$). All
he's done is transfer "photo-reality mosaic" art onto a new medium, the
saw. This of course, in the eyes of gallery owners, is "Bold" "Avant-
Garde" and all of the hokey adjectives that are used to embellish
otherwise pedestrian executions of "art" that should be confined to
(pick your location).

The best part, I think, is the description of Solinas being the "pre-
eminent plein air saw artist" which tells me 1) hokey adjectives again
2) you mean there are OTHER plein air saw artists in addition to all of
the closeted artists? Aaargh! Ship them all to Novaya Zemlya!!

I've known a lot of art critics and gallery owners-they decide what's
hot and what gets promotional placement. When appreciating miniatures on
the scale of Solinas, frankly I prefer Canaletto (Giovanni Antonio
Canal, Jeff) or Guardi.

Scott: where are you in this discussion? We need to hear your wisdom and
your choice words railing on the nouveau riche!@!!

And I'm still snipping chaff from emails............grumble grumble
grumble mutiny mutiny mutiny (attribution:Freberg)

Ed; freezing, near Ottawa.
