Bret: The saw is a combination saw and it came with several saw blades (5
or so ) of differing TPI and length/depth. I'd concur on the Bishop
origin. The "strap" is used to lock-in or remove the saw blade. It
rotates upwards/downwards on a "Pin" in the handle. The hole in the
latch is likely there in case one wants to put a rod through it to
facilitate rotating the latch to an open or locked position.

Hey Erv:
Is that a C E Jennings patent? I have a saw by that maker that
seems to say so...TIA; GAM

118075 Brian Pennington <blpenn@a...> 2003‑05‑27 Re: Unidentified saw, need help
GAM and GGs,

The handle Erv is referring to is listed as the Garland Adjustable
Handle in the c. 1913 C. E. Jennings & Co Price List No. 13
reprint that MWTCA did in 1985.

The text for the handle reads, "The feature of the handle is the
adjustable lever that operates the screw which holds the blade.
The blade may be instantly removed from the handle without use
of a screw driver and another blade inserted. A screw driver
may be used if it is desirable to tighten the screws to render the
blade rigid."

Provided with a number of combination sets of saws containing
from two to six blades.

The text on one page indicates that a patent was applied for but
in looking for it rather extensively under the usual patent categories,
I haven't been able to locate a patented issued under that name
or with that particular feature. If I had a patent date.....

Best,
Brian

HI Brian:
Sorry, I don't have a date for you, and looking at the saw, I'm not
sure the "patent" referred to is the locking lever, it might say
"Patent GROUND".
---whatever it says, no date...cool feature, tho, and many thanks
for trying---
