277379 John Leyden <leydenjl@g...> 2023‑05‑22 Router Plane
Greetings,

I have lately been wondering about the origin and development of the router
plane.

Some general internet searching informs me that the router plane appears to have
been invented in ancient Egypt. Alas, no pictorial evidence seems to be
available online to satisfy my curiosity about its design and manner of usage in
that era.

And curiously, nothing much else is said about these tools until the “hag’s
tooth” appears in the 18th Century.

Can anyone else fill in the blanks on this story, specifically regarding the
evolution of this tool in the Arab world over time and its eventual introduction
into the western woodshop?

Thanks.
