Gentles, I have an H. Chapin Union Factory badger plane (panel raising plane?), model No. 198. I don't know the date of the plane, just says UNION FACTORY WARANTEED in two lines arched over H CHAPIN. It has a single BALDWIN TOOL CO. Butcher's Cast Steel iron. If you've access to a Union Factory catalog, I'd appreciate a look up for this model. Thank you, John John Johnston There is a fine line between hobby and mental illness. Dave Barry |

The 1890 Chapin catalog shows the model no. 198 as an adjustable sash plane so that's no help.. Ken Robert's Wooden Planes Vol 2 might be a good resource since it has a ton of information on Chapin but I don't have a copy handy. Josh On Sun, Feb 26, 2023 at 3:48 PM John M. Johnston |

The 1859 Chapin price list has the No. 198 “Raising Plane” listed at 85 cents per inch (that’d be per inch width of blade) Sent from Mail<https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=550986> for Windows |

The 1869 H Chapin Catalog shows single-iron raising planes as #162 and double iron as #163. However, these have depth stops and cutters. The same catalog shows rabbets skewed, boxed and w/ cutter, 1-2.25" as #158, w/handle #159, and w/ two cutters #160. Brian Rytel |
