My Dad was a "Chief Engineer” — among other things that meant he was a diesel
mechanic — in the west coast fishing fleet out of San Diego. He used to grab a
large screwdriver, put the tip where he thot the offending noise was coming
from, and put the handle end up against his ear. I’ll never forget the time we
took the flooring out of the back of my Mother’s ’58 Ford station wagon and I
drove around the neighborhood while he straddled the frame rails listening for
the squeak. Found it.
