276346 Tony Seo 2022‑09‑19 FS: September Sunshine 2022 Chapter 3
The third run of tools for the month of September as the rain pours down
around here.  But we need it.  As always there are some solid user and
good collectible tools fresh to the list this time.  The summer fleas
will be shutting down at the end of October so get the good stuff while
it's still coming in.

PayPal is preferred (if you use it) on all items. It's easier for me to

ship items off of a paid PayPal invoice, especially First Class ones.

Checks and money orders are still welcome.

And remember........da more ya buy, the cheaper they fly!

First contact (that is e-mail, or phone) that says I want it gets it.
Prices do not include shipping.  All items are shipped with Delivery
Confirmation. Insurance, unless it is a big order or a very fragile item
is optional. Just let me know. Also, I am shipping a lot more stuff via
First Class mail. There will be a small amount added to the shipping
cover the cost of the padded mailer. I don't get them for free.

Please put your name and address in the message. Saves time and email
traffic!

TWO Mahogany Cased Slip Sharpening Stones.  The case on the left is 5
3/8" long, 2 11/16" wide, 1 5/16" high, the one on the left is 5 1/8"
long, 3 3/16" wide, 1 1/2" high, and this all weighs 1 lb 5 oz total
unboxed.  There is a user name stamped on the left one, but there are
not other marks on the cases and stones.  These are in reasonably good
condition and were cleaned.  The lighter stone feels like a fine or
extra fine and might be an Arkansas stone.  That measures 4 11/16" long,
2" high, 7/16" wide at the top, and 5/32" at the lower end.  The gray
stone feels like a medium grit.  That measures 4 1/2" long, 2 1/8" high,
5/8" wide at the top, and 5/16" at the lower end.  Both stones have some
stains.  The lighter stone does have a little wear in the center along
the top and lower edge. The edges on the gray stone are good.  The case
on the left has some staining and dings.  The other case has some light
yellow paint on the inside of the left and on the inside of the base.
Both have a brad showing where they were repaired at some point, but
both are solid.  These ain't pristine, but I really doubt that you are
going to see another set like this any time soon, I sure have not.  $55.00

Sandusky Tool No 47 1/4 Side Bead Molding Plane.  This weighs 12 oz
unboxed.  The mark is partially obscured by a user mark, but can be
read.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  The body
has some stains and dings.  The heel also has some dings and the same
user mark.  The sole and boxing are good and the mouth is tight and was
never messed with.  The cutting face of the iron is clean.  The wedge
has a little wear on the edges, but it's solid. This ain't minty, but
these guys have sure been few and far between of late.  $19.00

Boxwood Isaac Greaves Spokeshave Or Spoke Shave.  Measuring 11 7/16"
overall, the blade is 2 15/16" long, 9/16" wide across the edge, and
this weighs 4.1/2 oz unboxed.  Isaac Greaves was a long time Sheffield
England toolmaker who was in business from 1825 until 1905.  The body
isn't signed.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.
The body has some stains and dings.  There is a small chip on the one
side of the tang mortise on the underside. The sole has some light
scratches and wear, but nothing too bad. The blade has some light
pitting, but it's fairly clean in the working area and there is lots to
work with.  The blade does remove and holds position.  This ain't
pristine, but it's a good looking tool that will get the job done.  $22.00

Vintage No 3 Hand Saw Sharpening Vise.  The jaws are 9 5/8" wide and
this weighs 4 lbs 4 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker, this is
just marked No. 3.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There
is some wear to the original finish, a few small bits of paint, and some
light patina where the finish is worn.  The jaws are fairly good, but
don't close quite flush looking from the side.  The frame is good with
no cracks and the clamp works.  The bench clamp screw works as does the
pivot screw.  This sure ain't the prettiest peach in the patch, but it's
a solid tool that will get the job done.  $30.00

face is 1 3/8" in diameter, the peen is 1 1/2" wide, and this weighs 2
lbs 9 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This is in decent
condition and was cleaned.  There is some overall light patina.  The
face has some old chips around the edge.  The peen is good save for a
small chip on the one side.  The eye is good to go. This ain't pretty or
perfect, but drop it on a handle and it will get the job done.  $15.00

Chapin-Stephens No 68 2 Ft Folding Rule.  This weighs 1 1/2 oz unboxed.
This is in reasonably good condition and was not cleaned. The finish on
the outside is original,  There is a little wear, but most of it is
present.  The same goes for the inside.  All the rulings are readable.
The brass has some staining.  The inside pins are present, but the side
pin is missing.  The one outer leg is slightly warped.  The joints are
good.  This ain't 100% minty, but it sure is in better condition than
most of these guys that I see. $17.00

1/8" long, the tip is 9/16" wide, and they weigh 1 lb 1 1/4 oz unboxed.
Made in Merry Olde England.  These are in reasonably good condition and
were cleaned.  The head on the smaller one has some light frosting, but
both tips are clean.  The shafts ave some light roughness, but that's
how they were made.  Both handles have some dings and stains, but are
solid.  These ain't minty, but they will get the job done.  $35.00

Early Stanley No 85 1/2 Rosewood Panel Marking Gage Or Gauge.  The beam
is 20 1/2" long and this weighs 13 1/2 oz unboxed.  Justus A. Traut of
New Britain, CT was granted Pat. No. 141,475 on Aug. 5, 1873 for the
design of the adjustable point used on this tool.  This is in decent
condition and was cleaned.  The beam has some wear on the edges, a few
rough spots, a user name marked in a couple of places, and there is a
hanging hole at the far end.  The head plate has some scuffs and wear.
The point screw works and the point does remove, but it takes some
convincing.  The head also has some wear on the edges and some dings.
The locking screw works and this does have the original brass shoe,
which is unique to this tool.  This ain't pristine, and it sure ain't
got that kind of price tag either, but this also is a fairly uncommon
tool.  Just saying.  $65.00

13/16" deep, 3/16" wide at the tips, and this weighs 1 lb 1 oz unboxed.
Not signed as to the maker.  This is in decent condition and was
cleaned.  There is some areas of light pitting.  The jaws are good.  The
lap joint has a little play, but the rivet is good. I'm thinking that
this was used for lifting small crucibles, but I could be wrong on
that.  But, I sure ain't seen too many of these guys around.  $18.00

This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned. There ain't much
in the way of patina.  The chuck has a scuff on the one side, but it and
the jaws are good.  The handle is also good and clear all the way
through.  This ain't pristine, but it's pretty darn close.  $15.00

7/8" in diameter, and this weighs 15 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to
the maker.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  There
is a little frosting, but nothing too bad patina wise.  The tip is
good.  The brass string cap is also good and removes completely.  This
ain't gotta fancy maker's name, but it's a good looking tool to say the
least.  $25.00

Stanley No 20 1 1/4 Inch Everlasting Chisel.  Measuring 5 5/16" from the
edge to the top of the ferrule, the blade is 4 3/16" long, this is 10
9/16" overall, and this weighs 12 oz unboxed.  This is in fair condition
and was cleaned.  The back has some overall light pitting, a few spots
of deeper pitting, and a few scuffs.  The top also has more of the
same.  The sides have some dings and I did run a file over some
mushrooming down by the ferrule.  The edge will need some work.  The
ferrule has some dings, but no cracks that I can see. The handle has
some wear, a partial check on the front, and a sliver off of the back.
The striking button has lots of dings.  This ain't the prettiest, but
then these bigger sizes sure ain't getting any easier to find.  $28.00

the blade is 7 15/16" long, 1 1/2" wide across most of the edge, 1 7/16"
at one end. and this weighs 1 lb 1/2 oz unboxed.  This was a hardware
store brand name, but which one seems to be lost to history.  This is in
reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  The back has some very light
frosting, but nothing too bad.  The top has some dings and I did run a
file over some mushrooming on the top. The edge has a few dings and will
need a little work.  The front also has some frosting and light patina.
Both handles have most of the original finish.  There is a little wear
and few tiny bits of paint.  The left one wiggles a hair.  The end caps
and ferrules also good save for a little frosting.  This ain't minty,
but it will get the job done.  $38.00

of light pitting around the slot.  The edges and corners are good.  The
rosewood handle has some wear, dings, and some small user initials
stamped on the lower front.  The locking screw does it's job.  This
ain't minty, but Then tools of this age rarely are, and it will get the
job done.  $19.00

weighs 9 oz unboxed.  This is in good condition and was cleaned. The
beam is good other than having a user name marked on both sides.  The
brass plate on the beam has some light wear.  The points could stand a
touch up, but there is lots to work with.  The adjuster works and was
oiled.  The head also has the same name stamped on it.  The brass face
is good and the locking screw works and has the small brass shoe on the
inside.  This is not a very commonly found tool by this or any other

long, 2 15/16" wide, 2 1/2" high at the toe, the iron is 2 5/16" wide
across the edge, and this weighs 1 lb 13 1/4 oz unboxed. The body isn't
signed and the iron is marked J Smith, which could be either Joseph or
John, both of whom worked in the early 1800's in Sheffield England.
This is in decent condition and was cleaned. The body has some stains,
dings, and some checks on the toe and heel.  The sole has some wear in
the center, along with much stains and dings, and a few of the checks
travel down there as well.  The mouth is opened from wear.  The wedge is
oak and looks to be original to the tool.  That is good other than some
stains.  The iron is fairly clean on the steel face, save for some
frosting and a few spots of light pitting.  The iron body does have some
deeper pitting and some mushrooming at the top.  This ain't minty, but
considering the age of the tool and how hard these guys got used, this
one sure ain't bad.  $65.00

pitting on the head.  The face has some very light pitting and a small
chip on the underside.  The peen has some wear on the ends, but it's
good otherwise.  The handle looks to be original.  That has a check
under the eye, some dings, stains, and there is a slice missing off of
the back.  The handle feels solid enough, as long as you don't try to
drive framing nails with this guy.  Just saying. This ain't pretty or
perfect, but these guys sure do not show up very often.  $18.00

overall, the head is 7 1/2" long, the edge is 1 5/8" high, and this

spots on the top and underside, so he either made this or worked with a
real bunch of tool thieves.  This is in decent condition and was
cleaned.  The head has some overall light patina, including some spots
of lead splash on the one side.  I did dress the edge and that is good
to go.  The striking end has some mushrooming, but nothing sharp.  The
handle is old.  That has the usual dings and stains, and there is a
little roughness at the end, but it's solid and on tight.  This ain't

and this weighs 2 lbs 3 oz total unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.
The stone is a man made one.  This is in reasonably good condition and
was cleaned.  The case is pine and both pieces were made from single
blocks of wood.  There is some staining and dings to the finish.  There
is a galvanized liner on the inside of the base.  The stone is double
sided and you can see a binder or glue line looking from the side.  The
fine side has a chip on the one edge, both both faces are fairly
straight looking from the ends and the sides.  This ain't minty, but
it's a solid tool that will get the job done.  $30.00

L S Starrett No 277 2 Inch Toolmaker Divider.  Measuring 2 11/16" long
(from the tips to the top of the spring) and this weighs 1/2 oz
unboxed.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned. There is
some light frosting on the legs.  The spring is good save for a little
funky on the inside.  The nut travels the full distance and was oiled.
The tips are also good.  This ain't perfect, but it will get the job
done.  $38.00

Early Hand Forged Carpenters Claw Hammer Head.  Measuring 5 5/8" long,
the face is roughly 1 1/16" wide, 15/16" high, the claws are 1 5/8"
wide, and this weighs 1 lb 8 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the
maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There is some
overall pitting and patina.  The face has a ding on the center, there is
some chipping around the edge, and the start of some mushrooming.  The
tips of the claws also have some mushrooming, but the inside edges are
fairly good.  The square punched eye has some crusty on the inside, but
it's solid.  This ain't pretty or perfect, but these old dawgs rarely
are.  $17.00

Hand Forged Early 3/4 lb Cross Peen Hammer.  Measuring 10 3/4" overall,
the head is 3 9/16" long, the face is 7/8" wide, 11/16" high, the peen
is 1" wide, and this weighs 13 1/4 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the
maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There is some
overall light pitting and patina, and there are some scuffs on the op of
the eye from a re-handle job.  The face has some light dings and a
little bit of mushrooming.  The peen has some light roughness and was
dressed at some point.  The handle is old.  There are some dings,
stains, and a few bits of paint, but it's solid.  This ain't the
prettiest, but then tools of this age rarely are and it will get the job
done.   $16.00

is 9" long, the front face is 2 3/16" wide, 1 3/16"  high, the back face
is 1 1/4" high, 1 5/8" wide, and this here bad boy weighs 4 lbs 1 1/4 oz
unboxed.  This isn't signed, but few of these were, at least the earlier
ones.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  There
ain't much in the way of patina overall on the head.  The front face has
a few very light dings and a little frosting.  The back face also has
some light dings and there are a few small chips around the edges.  The
handle looks to be original to the tool.  That also has some dings and
stains, but it's solid. This ain't minty, but these guys sure have been
few and far between of late.  $50.00

is 6 13/16" long (across the center), the edge is 2 3/8" high (straight
across), and this weighs 1 lb 8 1/4 oz unboxed.  Brades was a long time
English tool maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There
are some areas of pitting on both sides of the head.  The edge will need
a little work.  The cross hatching on the hammer face has some wear.
The eye looks to be good.  The handle is a replacement.  That has some
dings and stains, but it's solid. This ain't minty, but tools by this
maker sure do not show up very often.  $18.00

There are some light dings and patina on both sides of the head.  The
jaws have a little wear at the ends of the tips, but the teeth are good
save for some tiny dings.  The wire cutters also have some dings on the
outer edges, but the insides are good.  The joint is good.  This ain't
pristine, but it's a heavy duty quality tool that will get the job
done.  $15.00

decent condition and was cleaned.  The blade has some light pitting on
both sides.  The edge is fairly good.  The solid handle has some
frosting, but nothing too bad patina wise.  I gotta say, that these guys
are sure getting few and far between of late. $35.00

reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  The wood is beech.  There
are some stains, light dings, and a little wear, but nothing too bad.
The sides have some light saw marks, but that's an occupational hazard
for this kind of tool.  This ain't pristine, but these guys sure do not
show up very often.  $20.00

Uncommon Vintage G L F Wire Fencing Pliers.  Measuring 10 1/8" long and
this weighs 1 lb 6 1/4 oz unboxed.  I thought that was a use mark, but I
found several others with the same mark.  This is in decent condition
and was cleaned.  There are some dings on the head and some areas of
frosting as well.  The jaw tips are good.  The hammer poll has some
light mushrooming.  The wire cutter is good as is the staple pulling
claw.  The joint has a little wiggle.  The handles are good save for
some light patina.  This ain't pristine, but then working tools rarely
are, and this one sure ain't all that common.  $27.00

long, the one face is 1 1/8" wide, 1" high, the other is 1" wide, 15/16"
high, and this weighs 1 lb 15 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the
maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There is some
roughness on the body left over from when this was made. Both faces were
dressed around the sides at some point in time.  The one face has some
light dings and wear and the other does have some cut and punch marks.
They both have a whisker of mushrooming around the edge.  The eye was
punched a little unevenly, but it's solid. This ain't minty, but it is a
solid tool that will get the job done.  $18.00

W Beatty & Son Phila Cast Steel 9 Inch Draw Knife.  Measuring 17 1/4"
overall, the blade is 9 1/16" long, 1 1/4 and 1 5/16" wide at the ends,
1 3/16" at the center, and this weighs 1 lb 3 3/4 oz unboxed.  This is
in decent condition and was cleaned.  One of the flea market artists had
painted the metal parts with flat black and the handles with battleship
gray, sigh.  The steel bit has a couple of small spots of light pitting
and some frosting, but overall nothing too bad.  The edge will need a
quick touch up.  The wrought iron frame has some pitting on both sides.
There are some dings on the top, but none of them travel to the back.
Both of the black walnut handles have some paint residue down in the
grain and some wear, and the right one has some notches filed on the
back for some reason, but both are solid and are on tight.  This ain't
no picture of perfection, but it's a quality tool that will get the job
done. $40.00

Stanley No 12TS 12 Inch Try Square.  This weighs 1 lb 4 3/4 oz unboxed.
This was made by Stanley during the early 1960's "Blue" era for use in
trade and vocational schools.  This is in reasonably good condition and
was cleaned.  The blade has some light spots of pitting and frosting,
but overall it's clean for the most part.  The edges and corners are
good.  The machined surfaces of the handle have some dings and a little
frosting.  I did remove most of a patch of green paint on the lower part
of the front of the handle, but there still is a little bit on there.
Other than that, the finish is good.  This ain't minty, but it will get
the job done.  $28.00

long, the vertical edge is 1 1/16" high, the horizontal edge is 1 1/8"
wide, and this weighs  1 lb 7 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.
This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  There is the
usual patina found on these kind of tools, but nothing too bad.  Both
edges will need a dressing.  The eye is good to go.  This ain't gotta
fancy name, but it's a well made and good looking tool that will get the
job done.  $18.00

FOUR Wooden Molding Mitre Bench Hooks.  They range in length from 5 7/8"
to 7 3/4", the sizes range from 1/2" to 1", and they weigh 6 3/4 oz
unboxed.  The first two are mahogany, the third one is oak, and the last
one is beech.  The first one has a user name, the last one has a size
mark, but there are no maker's marks.  These are in reasonably good
condition and were cleaned.  All were made from single sections of
wood.  There is a little wear, but overall nothing too bad.  The first
one has some glue residue along the molded section and the third one has
some dots of paint that didn't want to come off.  Other than that, these
guys are right nice. These are very uncommon bench tools and great
collectibles to say the least.  $85.00

Routledge Birmingham 3/4 Inch Wooden Sash Template.  Measuring 7" long,
1 15/16" high, 1 1/2" wide, and this weighs 6 3/4 oz unboxed. Richard
Routledge & Son were Birmingham England tool dealers who were in
business from 1876 until 1944.  This is in reasonably good condition and
was cleaned.  This was made from beech.  There are a few small stained
spots and the screw heads have a little rust, but overall nothing too
bad.  The inside is good save for a little light dinging at the one
end.  I didn't try the screws, but the two sections are tight.  I gotta
say that these guys rarely show up over here.  $28.00
