I'd start with 1 X8s. You can rip them in two to get out major blemishes or
to get rid of the pith if any. Those sized boards are a pretty good buy,
relatively. I have also bought 1 X 12s Which often have the pith near the
center and ripped the pith out and ended up with 2 quarter sawn pieces
which are good for many projects.
