Fresh Goodes

Vintage S & S Machinist 9 Inch Vernier Caliper.  Measuring 9" long, the
jaws are 3 3/8" high, and this weighs 7 1/2 oz unboxed. This is marked S
& S, Germany on the rule, and has the Keuffel & Esser company mark along
with a department ID, so this was probably one of their in-house shop
tools.  Pretty neat, eh?  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.
The rule, which is English on the one side and metric on the other, has
some light pitting on both sides at the far end of the head, but it's
clean for the most part.  The jaws are good.  The German Silver head has
some stains. The locking screw works.  This ain't pristine, but it sure
is not a common tool.  $30.00

Uncommon C Hammond Phila Bookbinders Hammer.  Measuring 8 9/16" overall,
the head is 5 1/2" long (straight across), the face is 2 1/8" in
diameter, the peen is 1 7/16" wide, and this weighs 1 lb 14 oz unboxed.
This is in reasonably good condition for the age and use and was not
cleaned.  There is some overall light patina on the head and a user
initial on the one side of the eye.  The face has some dings and wear to
the one side.  The peen is good save for some very light dings.  The eye
is solid with no cracks that I can see. The handle is old, but it's hard
to say if it's the original one. That has some dings, stains, some
chipping down at the end, but it's solid.  This ain't minty, but these
guys are sure few and far between to come by.  $80.00

Early P S Stubs Wing Compass Or Divider.  Measuring 9 1/16" long and
this weighs 11 oz unboxed.  This is in decent condition and was
cleaned.  THere is some overall frosting and some spots of light
pitting.  The 3 finger (2 + 1) joint is a little stiff, but it does
work.  The locking screw has a very slight bend along the threads, but
it also works and was oiled.  The legs are a little bent, but the tips
are good.  This ain't pristine but it is a collectible early tool.  $38.00

Early Hand Forged Dough Pumpkin Scraper.  Measuring  5" long down the
center, the head is 5 15/16" wide, 2" high at the center, and this
weighs 7 oz unboxed.  There is a touchmark with the initials B L T on
the inside at the start of the handle.  My thoughts are that this is of
18th Century vintage.  Somebody called this a pumpkin scraper, but it
does look like a dough scraper.  Take your pick. This is in decent
condition and was cleaned.  There is lots of patina, pitting, and what
have you.  The edge is worn but that comes with old age and hard work,
eh?  The head area is good with no cracks that I can see.  The handle is
solid.  This is one of those items that rarely shows up any more.  $80.00

Early Hand Forged PA Dutch Dough Scraper.  Measuring 3 7/8" long, 3
1/16" wide across the edge, 2 7/8" high at the center, and this weighs 5
1/4 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This is in reasonably good
condition for the age.  It had been cleaned previously and I just took
off some recent patina.  There is some light pitting and patina.  The
edge is good.  The handle has a couple of voids along the sides but it's
solid.  I gotta say, that these guys are sure getting hard to come by of
late.  $32.00

Palmer Folding Handle 10 Inch Draw Knife.  Measuring 19" overall, the
blade is 10" long, 1 3/8" wide across the edge, and this weighs 1 lb 7
3/4 oz unboxed.  This is in good condition and was cleaned. The back is
good other than a small spot of pitting up at the top. The front also
has a few small spots as well.  The top is good and was never struck.
The handles are good and have almost all of the original finish.  The
handle screws work and were oiled.  This ain't minty but it will get the
job done.  $55.00

Early Hand Forged Eel Gig Head.  Measuring 8 13/16" long, 3" wide across
the outsides of the tines, and this weighs 11 1/4 oz unboxed.  Not
signed as to the maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.
There is some overall patina.  The tips of the tines were dressed
recently, but the toothing on the sides is worn. The toothing on the
tang is fairly good.  These guys are sure getting hard to come by, at
least around these here parts.  $30.00

Stanley SW No 71 Mortising Marking Gage Or Gauge.  This weighs 4 1/2 oz
unboxed.  This is in reasonably good condition and was not cleaned, at
least by me.  The beams have a couple of funky spots on the finish, but
are straight.  The tips and the head are good.  The brass has some age
staining.  The brass shoes are present and the locking screws work.
This ain't pristine, but as these guys go, this one one sure ain't bad.

Vintage E C Stearns Cast Iron File Handle.  Measuring 4 15/16" long and
this weighs 4 1/4 oz unboxed.  This is in decent condition and was not
cleaned.  The finish is original  and about 50% present. The handle is
solid with no cracks to the webbing.  The clamp is good and the screw
works, but does not back out all the way, (common problem with these
guys.)  This ain't minty, but it is a quality tool that will get the job
done.  $23.00

C Tollner Chair Makers Spoke Pointer For A Brace.  The bell is 2" in
diameter and this weighs 6 1/2 oz unboxed.  Charles Tollner was a New
York NY hardware dealer who was in business from 1851 to 1861. This is
in decent condition and was cleaned.  The finish on the bell is original
but there is some wear.  The inside has some staining and a little
frosting.  The blade does have some pitting but the cutting area is
fairly clean.  The screw works, but the washer is pitted and could stand
to be replaced.  The tang also has some light pitting and is notched for
a bitstock.  This ain't pristine, then tools that are over 150 years old
rarely are.  $25.00

tips are 1/8" in diameter, 3/4" wide across the center of the tips, and
this weighs 4 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  I'm thinking
that this was for fuses on projectiles of the CW era.  This is in
reasonably good condition and was cleaned. There is a little patina but
nothing too bad.  The tips are good as is the tang.  This is not a very
commonly found tool to say the least.  $24.00

looks to be a No. 6, this is 6 5/16" overall, and this weighs 1 1/4 oz
unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This is in good condition and was
lightly cleaned.  There ain't much patina to fuss about.  The inside of
the sweep is clean and the edge is good.  The handle is also good.  This
ain't gotta fancy name but it will get the job done.  $14.00

the face is about 1 1/4" square, the peen is 1 5/8" wide, and this
weighs 2 lbs 3 3/4 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker. This is in
decent condition and was cleaned.  There is some overall light patina
including some dings on the sides.  The face has a little wear in the
center and some old small chips around the edge. The peen has a little
chip off of the one end but it's otherwise good.  The punched eye is
good to go.  This ain't pristine, but it's an old dawg that will get the
job done.  $24.00

and was cleaned.  There is some overall light pitting and patina.  The
face also has some pitting and a tiny chip off the edge.  The peen is
good other than some light pitting.  The eye is good.  This ain't minty
but it is a neat smaller hammer that will get the job done.  $20.00

the maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  The head has
some dings, cut marks, and the usual patina going.  The face has some
light dings and there is a well worn chip off of the one side.  The peen
is good.  The handle was replaced at some point.  That has some dings,
stains, and a few bits of paint, but it's solid.  This ain't pretty or
perfect, but it will get the job done.  $18.00

The blade has a few small spots of rust and some scratches but still has
the original plating.  The edges and corners are crispy.  The handle has
some staining along the one edge and side but also has the original
finish.  The locking nut and screw do their jobs.  This ain't pristine

condition and was cleaned.  The plating on the front plate has some
light patina.  The clean level vial is good.  The finish on the body is
original and about 75% present.  The locking screw has some light rust

cut is 5/8", and this weighs 14 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the
maker.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  Note this
is straight, any bending you see is because of camera lens distortion.
The body has some stains, dings, and there are a few tiny bits of paint
down in the grain.  The sole has a couple of worn spots, but it's good
for the most part.  The mouth is open a little, but that's how this was
made.  The wedge is good. The iron has some dots of light pitting and
some staining.  This ain't minty, but it will get the job done.  $25.00

high, 5/16" wide, and this weighs 10 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the
maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There is some
pitting and patina on the head.  The face and peen were dressed by
somebody else.  They didn't do a great job, but I'm sure that they are
better than they were.  They both have some chipping on the sides.  The
handle is old and could be the original one.  That has some roughness
under the eye and the usual stains but it feels solid enough.  This
ain't pretty or perfect but is is neat looking hammer that will get the
job done.  $17.00

this weighs 1 lb 14 oz unboxed.  Marked as shown. This guy was fresh
from the womb and still has the umbilical cord attached, but it picked
up some rust and I dusted it off a bit.  The face and peen will need
some work and the eye is good to go.  This is what it is, but with some
time and cussing it will get the job done.  $15.00

it's clean for the most part save for some frosting and staining.  The
edges and corners are good.  The rose wood handle has some dings and
wear along the edges but it's solid.  The locking screw does the job

condition and was cleaned.  There ain't much in the way of patina other
than a user name marked on the spring.  The spring is good.  The tips
only close down to 1/16" but are good otherwise. The screw and nut are
good and travel the full distance.  This ain't pristine but it will get

T Rosenbaum Germany 10 Inch Sweep Brace.  Measuring 15 3/4" long and
this weighs 1 lb 15 oz unboxed.  Nothing shows up about this maker but
the style suggests late 19th or early 20th Century as to the age.  This
is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  There ain't much in
the way of patina to fuss about.  The chuck shell is good and the
threads were oiled.  The jaws are good but never had a spring to start
with.  The grip and pad are stained hardwood.  They both have some dings
and stains, but both are solid and spin freely.  This ain't got a fancy
name but it's a solid older tool that will get the job done.  $24.00

top of the handle, the b lade is 2 1/8" long, this is 7 3/8" overall,
and this weighs 1 3/4 oz unboxed.    Not signed as to the maker, but
this looks like one of the Witherby tanged chisels with the rounded tang
bolster and the style of the handle.  This is in reasonably good
condition and was cleaned.  The back has a little frosting as does the
top.  The handle has some dings and a few tiny bits of paint that didn't
want to come off but it's solid.  This ain't the longest but for the
money it will get the job done. $14.00

with a star drill.  This is in fair condition and was lightly cleaned.
There is some overall pitting.  The head still retains it's shape
despite the patina.  The underside of the shaft is ruled in 1"
increments.  This ain't pretty or perfect, this is one of those tools
that despite being common for a long time, does not show up very often.

Vintage Forged 10 oz Cross Peen Hammer.  Measuring 11" overall, the head
is 4" long, the face is 1/2" in diameter, the peen is 13/16" wide, and
this weighs 10 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This has a
forged head with a steel face and peen on an iron body.   This is in
decent condition and was cleaned.  The last owner was something of a
"side banger" and there are lots of dings on both sides.  The face has a
couple of light dings but nothing too bad. The peen is good other than
some light roughness.  The handle is old and could be the original one.
That has some stains, dings, and a couple of tiny bits of paint that
didn't want to come off, but it feels solid enough.  This ain't

weighs 1 lb unboxed.  The Forest City Bit & Tool Co was founded in 1890

mark is faint.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.
There is a little staining overall, and a little bit of light crusty up
at the top, but nothing too bad.  This doesn't have a lead screw, just a
point but that is good.  The cutters and spurs are ready to work.  The
tang has a few scuffs but it's good to go.  This ain't minty but overall
it sure ain't bad.  $35.00

cleaned.  The plating is good and there is some frosting and some light
pitting on the one end.  The rulings are all readable and the edges are
good.  The one corner at the far end has a little wear.  This ain't
pristine but these guys rarely are and this one will get the job done.

Sandusky Tool No 47 3/16 Inch Side Bead Molding Plane.  This weighs 11
oz unboxed.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  Note
this is straight, any bending you see is because of camera lens
distortion.  The body has some stains, a user name stamped on the toe,
and a little chipping on the top of the heel but nothing too bad.  The
sole and boxing are good and the mouth is factory tight.  The wedge is
good.  The iron has some light frosting and pitting on the face but
nothing too deep and there is lots to work with.  This ain't pristine
but it will get the job done. $20.00

somebody wedged it in place and it sits at a bit of an angle.  The one
on the right has some pitting on both sides.  The left handle is rose
wood, the other one I can't say, probably beech.  Both have some checks

the most part.  The punch is good and works cleanly.  The depth stop
screw works.  The joint and springs are good.  This is a neat tool and
one that does not show up very often in this kind of shape.  $17.00

the sides.  The tang is good.  This ain't perfect but it is a
collectible tool that will get the job done.  $14.00

Early Disston 8 Inch Adjustable Bevel Square.  The b lade is 8" long,
the handle is 5 1/8" high, and this weighs 4 oz unboxed.  Not signed as
to the maker but these early ones usually weren't.  This is in decent
condition and was cleaned.  The b lade has some frosting on both sides
and there is some light pitting around the end of the slot.  The edges
and corners are good.  The handle has user initials carved into the
front and some wear but it's solid. The fancy head locking screw does
it's job.  This ain't pristine but it will get the job done.  $15.00
