First list of goodes for the Month of May.  The fleas have been slowly
getting productive and it looks like some of the shows are coming back
as well so that's a good sign.   As always there is good run of fresh
usable and collectible tools in here.

PayPal is preferred (if you use it) on all items. It's easier for me to
ship items off of a paid PayPal invoice, especially First Class ones.
Checks and money orders are still welcome.

And remember........da more ya buy, the cheaper they fly!

First contact (that is e-mail, or phone) that says I want it gets it.
Prices do not include shipping.  All items are shipped with Delivery
Confirmation. Insurance, unless it is a big order or a very fragile item
is optional. Just let me know. Also, I am shipping a lot more stuff via
First Class mail. There will be a small amount added to the shipping
cover the cost of the padded mailer. I don't get them for free.

Fresh Finds

Small Flat Jaw Hand Forged Blacksmith Tongs.  Measuring 11 3/4" long,
the jaws are 1 1/8" deep, 7/16" wide at the tips, and this weighs 10 3/4
oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This is in decent condition
and was cleaned.  There is the usual patina found on these guys.  The
jaws are good.  The joint has some play and the rivet will need tending
to, at some point, but it doesn't come apart.  This ain't for knocking
out horseshoes but for small pieces it will get the job done.  $18.00

Vintage 1/4 Inch Firmer Chisel.  Measuring 3 1/8" from the edge to the
top of the handle, the b lade is 2 1/8" long, this is 7 3/8" overall,
and this weighs 1 3/4 oz unboxed.    Not signed as to the maker, but
this looks like one of the Witherby tanged chisels with the rounded tang
bolster and the style of the handle.  This is in reasonably good
condition and was cleaned.  The back has a little frosting as does the
top.  The handle has some dings and a few tiny bits of paint that didn't
want to come off but it's solid.  This ain't the longest but for the
money it will get the job done. $14.00

Palmer Folding Handle 10 Inch Draw Knife.  Measuring 19" overall, the
blade is 10" long, 1 3/8" wide across the edge, and this weighs 1 lb 7
3/4 oz unboxed.  This is in good condition and was cleaned. The back is
good other than a small spot of pitting up at the top. The front also
has a few small spots as well.  The top is good and was never struck.
The handles are good and have almost all of the original finish.  The
handle screws work and were oiled.  This ain't minty but it will get the
job done.  $55.00

Early Hand Forged Eel Gig Head.  Measuring 8 13/16" long, 3" wide across
the outsides of the tines, and this weighs 11 1/4 oz unboxed.  Not
signed as to the maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.
There is some overall patina.  The tips of the tines were dressed
recently, but the toothing on the sides is worn. The toothing on the
tang is fairly good.  These guys are sure getting hard to come by, at
least around these here parts.  $30.00

Early Hand Forged Miners Blasting Drill Hole Spoon.  Measuring 29 5/8"
long and this weighs 8 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.
This was used to pull the rock dust out of holes that were hand drilled
with a star drill.  This is in fair condition and was lightly cleaned.
There is some overall pitting.  The head still retains it's shape
despite the patina.  The underside of the shaft is ruled in 1"
increments.  This ain't pretty or perfect, this is one of those tools
that despite being common for a long time, does not show up very often.

unboxed.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  The head has
some frosting on the front and a lightly marked user name. The face is
good and the rulings on the back are clear.  The rule has some staining
but the rulings are all readable.  The edges are good but the corners
have a little wear.  The locking screw works. This ain't minty but it
will get the job done. $15.00

Russell Jennings No 15 Brace Dowel Bit.  Measuring 5 1/4" long, 15/16"
in diameter, and this weighs 3 1/2 oz unboxed.  This is in reasonably
good condition and was cleaned.  There ain't much in the way of patina
overall to fuss about.  The cutters and lead screw are good, the spurs
could stand a once over with a file.  The tang has some dings.  This
ain't minty but this size in this style of bit sure does not show up
very often.  $15.00

Vintage Forged 10 oz Cross Peen Hammer.  Measuring 11" overall, the head
is 4" long, the face is 1/2" in diameter, the peen is 13/16" wide, and
this weighs 10 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This has a
forged head with a steel face and peen on an iron body.   This is in
decent condition and was cleaned.  The last owner was something of a
"side banger" and there are lots of dings on both sides.  The face has a
couple of light dings but nothing too bad. The peen is good other than
some light roughness.  The handle is old and could be the original one.
That has some stains, dings, and a couple of tiny bits of paint that
didn't want to come off, but it feels solid enough.  This ain't
pristine but it's an older tool that will get the job done.  $18.00

someplace nice.  There are some dots of light patina. The tip and tang
are good other than some staining.  This is a hard to find larger size.

Forest City 1 7/8 Inch Boring Machine Auger Bit.  Measuring 8 1/2" long,
the cut is 1 7/8" in diameter, the tang is 1/2" in diameter, and this
weighs 1 lb unboxed.  The Forest City Bit & Tool Co was founded in 1890
in Rockford, IL and the business relocated to Hickory, NC, in 1957.  The
mark is faint.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.
There is a little staining overall, and a little bit of light crusty up
at the top, but nothing too bad.  This doesn't have a lead screw, just a
point but that is good.  The cutters and spurs are ready to work.  The
tang has a few scuffs but it's good to go.  This ain't minty but overall
it sure ain't bad.  $35.00

tool is in reasonably good condition and was not cleaned.  The chuck
shell is good.  The cross hatching on the screw has a little wear and
staining.  The threads are good and I did put a little oil in there.
The shaft has a few dings but overall it's clean and the tang is good.
The box is rough and is missing pieces.  This ain't perfect but it sure
ain't bad and it is a quality tool that will get the job done.  $28.00

cleaned.  The plating is good and there is some frosting and some light
pitting on the one end.  The rulings are all readable and the edges are

Sandusky Tool No 47 3/16 Inch Side Bead Molding Plane.  This weighs 11
oz unboxed.  This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  Note
this is straight, any bending you see is because of camera lens
distortion.  The body has some stains, a user name stamped on the toe,
and a little chipping on the top of the heel but nothing too bad.  The
sole and boxing are good and the mouth is factory tight.  The wedge is
good.  The iron has some light frosting and pitting on the face but
nothing too deep and there is lots to work with.  This ain't pristine
but it will get the job done. $20.00

is 5 9/16" long (straight across the edge) and this weighs 15 1/4 oz
unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This is in decent condition and
was cleaned.  Somebody had painted the head with flat black paint. I got
rid of most of that on the outside but there still is some on the inside
of the b lade.  The outside is clean up by the edge and after that here
is some light pitting.  The inside has some overall light pitting.  The
brass ferrule has a couple of checks.  The handle also has a check under
the ferrule but the head is pinned in place.  The handle has some dings,
stains, and wear but it's solid.  This ain't pretty but then it wasn't
made to do a pretty job.  $25.00

Not signed as to the maker.  This is in decent condition and was
cleaned.  There is some overall pitting on the head.  The face and peen
have some light pitting.  The eye looks good with no cracks. The handle
has some some dings, stains, wear, and there is a check under the eye
from the wedge.  This ain't minty for sure but it is a neat older hammer
to say the least.

off real pretty like to start with.  The jaws have a couple of very tiny
dings but nothing too bad and they close up tight and flush.  The joint
is good.  This is a quality tool that will get the job done.  %16.00

Sorry, all. I should know the difference between “reply” and “reply-all”, but
apparently not.

In penance I will post something actually involving tool usage tonight.

Andrew,

That reminds me that Mothers Day is soon upon us. Two years ago I had
purchased a copper "apple butter vase" at a spring antiques extravaganza
event and gifted it for Mothers day. Upon further research it turned out to
actually be a spittoon.

I could pass it along as it is need of a bit of polishing.

Are you saying you did NOT give it for Mother’s Day?

Ed,

Yes but it has failed to find its sense of purpose.

I meant "pass the spittoon" in the figurative sense, not literally shipping
it.
