271885 Scott Garrison <scottbgarrison@g...> 2020‑10‑07 Watco Danish Oil Redux
So last we left off I told everyone I was struggling to get the 30 year old
golden oak Watco Danish Oil to go away. Couldn't really sand it effectively
and I didn't really want to go the MC stripping route. So I decided to coat
the legs with a couple of coats of black polyshades after scuff sanding for
adhesion?? (or at least I hope). The tops are brand new, made 100%
galootish. Red oak to match the legs and aprons which were built around
1992 (formerly a banded red oak plywood top). Nothing spectacular on the
work, two board top with a bit of rip sawing to size them, joint them with
an 08 as needed and Titebond to hold em together. The drawer parts were cut
in the 90s and never assembled for the end tables. They were strategically
placed so as to avoid seeing the opening for all those years.

Anyway they are now finished. These too are on my Covid agenda of actually
100% finishing projects instead of my normal 80%. SWMBOs changed over the
past 30 years and their tastes were vastly different. I wasn't keen on
going as dark as I did. Polyshade legs but that was due to the issues and
Jeff Jewitt process for mission finish using General Finishes. I may not
have been keen on the concept but I must admit I do like the look. Here
they are 100% finished and only 30 years to do so...

Scott completes something in an appropriate timeframe….

Nice work - now, come on, fellow porch dwellers, admit it - looking at that, it
makes you wonder what all the fuss was about…..

Now I’ll have to go and start on the figured sycamore blanks that Pete Taran
shipped over with my IT saw around 30 years ago.

(Finishing stuff - who let tht idea get started… I’m happy enough looking at
the Bookcase I made without its cornice 25 tears ago.. I’ll have to go and
finish that now AND make the drawer work. Hope this doesn’t start a trend.
Just imagine if we ALL had to start something , and then finish it before we
started something else. Why! There’d be no end to it.
Mutter mutter…..)
