266528 Anthony Seo 2018‑09‑17 FS: Sept Slidings List B
The second list for September. The trees are starting to colour up and
a few leaves are falling as well. Pickings have been tough but there
are a number of fresh and great old tools to peruse on here.

PayPal is now accepted and preferred (if you use it) on all items. On
items less than $25 (not including shipping) I would appreciate you
using the Send Money to Family & Friends option so I don't get killed
with the fees but that is your call. Checks and money orders are still
welcome, it just seems that 1st Class letters seem to be taking forever
to get from there to here.

And remember........da more ya buy, the cheaper they fly!

First contact (that is e-mail, or phone) that says I want it gets it.
Oldtools terms, except on items and orders over $100, if I don't know ya
or haven't done business in the past (and my records good way back..)
then it's pre-pay. I do take PayPal (except as noted). Prices do not
include shipping. All items are shipped with Delivery Confirmation.
Insurance, unless it is a big order or a very fragile item is optional.
Just let me know. Also, I am shipping a lot more stuff via First Class
mail. There will be a small amount added to the shipping cover the cost
of the padded mailer. I don't get them for free.

Please put your name and address in the message. Saves time and email
traffic!

Vintage Norlund Hudson Bay Tomahawk Hand Axe Head. Measuring 5 1/16"
long (across the center), the edge is 3 3/16" high (straight across),
and this weighs 15 1/2 oz unboxed. This is in decent condition overall
and was cleaned. The body is good for the most part other than a little
pitting at the edge. The last sharpening was a bit aggressive on the
one side and there are some scuff marks. The edge is banged up and will
need a proper sharpening. I did take some sharp mushrooming off the
poll, that's not perfect but it's better than it was. The poll does
have some dings. The eye is good other than a little crusty inside.
This ain't minty but it sure ain't bad and well it sure ain't got the
price of a minty one either. $48.00

Five Dem-Bart Co Checkering Tools. There are 5 handles with blades, 5
additional blades, and this all weighs 7 3/4 oz unboxed. The last one
isn't signed but it is a Dem-Bart. These are in reasonably good
condition. The only cleaning I did was to pretty up the handles a bit.
The blades have some light funky but nothing too bad. The shafts and
ferrules also have a few light spots of patina but they are clean for
the most part. The handles are good other than some staining. The
extra blades have some light rust from setting around but that will
clean off with use. These ain't pristine but they are quality tools.

Early Buck Bros Cast Steel 7/8 Inch Gouge. Measuring 8 1/4" from the
edge to the top of the handle, the blade is 6 9/16" long, 7/8" wide
across the outside of the sweep, this is 14 1/16" overall, and this
weighs 6 1/4 oz unboxed. This mark shows up in the Buck Bros catalogs
from the late 1800's. This is in reasonably good condition and was
cleaned. The back of the blade has some light scuffs and some tiny dots
mainly in the center, but nothing too bad. The inside of the sweep is
also clean other than a few light spots. There is a scuff mark on the
one side by the edge. This will need a sharpening. The handle looks to
be the original one but it's not signed. There is a small check under
the ferrule but the blade is in tight. The rest of the handle is good
other than some light marked user initials on the back. This ain't
minty but it sure ain't bad and these long bladed gouges sure ain't
getting any easier to find. $22.00

Bruning Germany No 64-581 Proportional Divider With Decimal Scaling.
The tool is 10" long and this weighs 8 1/2 oz unboxed. This is in used
but good condition and was not cleaned. There is a little scuffing on
the body but nothing too bad. The tips are sharp, the screws work, and
all of the rulings are readable. The case is good as well. This is a
top quality drafting tool that is very useful in just about every
workshop. $40.00

Record England No 169 Work Bench Stop. This weighs 1 lb 14 oz unboxed.
This is in good condition and was not cleaned. I really don't think it
was ever mounted or used. The base and finish are good. The screw has
a little funky but nothing worth screaming about. The wood stop has a
little staining from the base but the edges are crispy. This is a
quality tool and a must have for any serious woodworker. $28.00

L S Starrett No 91B Machinist Tap Handle. This weighs 7 1/2 oz unboxed.
This is in used but reasonably good condition and was cleaned by
someone else. The front side is good. The head on the back has some
rust etching and the fixed handle has some light pitting. The jaws are
good and travel the full distance. This ain't minty and it sure ain't
got the price tag of a minty one but it will get the job done. $40.00

James Swan No 6001 Universal Hollow Auger. This weighs 2 lbs 3 1/2 oz
unboxed. James Swan of Seymour, CT was granted Pat. No. 520,502 on May
29, 1894 for the design of this tool. This is in decent condition
overall and was cleaned. It arrived here rusted and totally locked up
and needless to say that didn't take no 5 minutes to fix. There is some
frosting on the shell and some light pitting on the face. The blades
are good other than some frosted spots but they will need a sharpening.
The adjuster mechanism works and travels the full distance. All the
screws and anything that slides or turns was oiled. The depth stop is
good. The tang has some staining but the edges are good to go. This
ain't minty but these guys are not very common, at least in my travels.

Three Small Early Hand Forged Blacksmith Hand Punches. the upper one is
3 9/16" long, the middle one is 5 1/2" long, the lower one is 5 3/8"
long, and they weigh 12 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. These
are in decent condition and were cleaned. They all have some patina,
the middle has some deeper spots of patina, but that's to be expected.
I did take some mushrooming off of the tips oif the first two and they
have slight bends at the tips as well. I also dusted off some sharp
edges on the striking ends of all three. These ain't perfect but they
are good working older tools. $22.00

Blacksmith 2 1/2 lb Cross Peen Hammer Head. Measuring 4 13/16" long,
the face is 1 9/16" in diameter, the peen is 1 9/16" wide, and this
weighs 2 lbs 10 1/4 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker, there are
user initials lightly stamped on the one side. This is in decent
condition and was cleaned. There is some overall patina including lots
of dings on both sides. The face has some light dings and some tiny
chips and wear around the edge. The peen also has some dings. The eye
is good other than a little crusty inside and I did run a file over a
few spots on the inside of the top. This ain't pretty or perfect but if
that's what you want, well bring more money. Just saying. $18.00

Two Vintage Drafting Rules. The upper one is a Keuffel & Esser No.
8881, the lower one is a Dietzgen No. 31636, and they weigh 3 1/4 oz
unboxed. These are in used but good condition. I did give the K & E a
wipedown with some wax. These are straight, the edges are free of
dings, and all the rulings are readable. The K & E does have a user
name ink marked on the side but that could be removed. These ain't
minty but they sure ain't bad and I haven't been seeing too many of
these guys around of late that weren't all beat up. $22.00

J Stortz & Son Hand Forged Ice Axe Head. Measuring 10 13/16" long
(across the center), the edge is 2 9/16" high (straight across), and
this weighs 3 lbs 5 oz unboxed. The mark is a bit faint but it can be
read. This is in decent condition overall and was cleaned. Overall
there is some light patina but nothing out of the ordinary. The edge
isn't shaving sharp but it's not too bad. The poll on the other hand
has some major dings, mushrooming, a couple of checks. I did zing down
a couple of sharp edges there. The eye is has some crusty inside and I
ran a file over some mushrooming on the insides of the wings. You can
see the forge weld lines on the top of the eye where the filler piece
was put in but it's not cracked there. The bottom line is that this guy
ain't minty but ice axes by this maker are very uncommon, at least in my
travels. $32.00

Vintage Wood Handle Hand Vise Or Handvise. Measuring 8" long, the jaws
are 1 1/8" wide, and this weighs 7 1/2 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the
maker, it is stamped Germany on the one side of the joint. This is in
reasonably good condition and was cleaned. There is a little patina on
the vise itself but it was never finished off real pretty to start with.
The jaws close up tight but not quite flush looking from the side.
The cross hatching on the jaw faces is worn but it's there. The screw
is good and the threads were oiled. I also oiled the joint a little.
The spring still has some spring to it. The handle was painted green
originally and there is a little residue left from that. There is a
check under the ferrule but the tool is in tight. The handle has a few
dings and a hanging hole so that you won't have to drill one yourself.
This ain't perfect but it will get the job done and these wooden handle
models sure don't show up every day. $30.00

cleaned. There is some overall light pitting. The tips are good. The
joint is bit loose but it ain't gonna fall apart. The locking screw and
fine adjustment nut both work and were oiled. This ain't the prettiest
but it will get the job done. $16.00

maker, there is the number 16 stamped on the center of the one side.
This is in reasonably good condition for the age and use and was
cleaned. There is some overall light patina but nothing worth kicking
the cat over. Both of the edges are good other than some light wear.

has some scratches. The handle has a few tiny dings and the locking

they were stored someplace not so nice. There is some light rusting on
both of them but nothing to bad. They have the original sprayed on

some staining on the one side of the beams but they are straight. There
are also some light dings on the edges. The points are good. The head
also has some light stains but no wear on the faces. The screws have a
few tiny dings on the edges but the threads are good and hold. This
ain't 100% minty but these guys are rarely in anything close to this
condition. $20.00

Hand Forged Early Blacksmith Square Hole Drift Punch Head. Measuring 6
1/4" long, the tip is roughly 1/2" square, 1 1/16" by 15/16" right in
front of the eye, and this weighs 1 lb 6 oz unboxed. Not signed as to
the maker. This is used to be non-round holes. This is in well used
condition and was cleaned. There is lots of patina going on. The tip
has a little mushrooming and there is a cut mark on the one side up by
the eye but it's not cracked. The striking end has a bunch of funky
going, including mushrooming, chipping, and a few voids. I did zing
down a few sharp edges there but it's too hot here to mount a full scale
cleanup. The punched eye is good other than a little crusty inside.
This ain't pretty or perfect and it sure ain't got the price tag of one
in better condition and these guys don't show up very often to say the
least. $17.00

Stanley V-Logo No 20 6 Inch Cabinet Makers Try Square. This weighs 5 oz
unboxed. This has the V-logo which was used on Stanley tools from 1910
until the SW mark came into being around 1920. This is in reasonably
good condition and was cleaned. The blade is good on both sides other
than some frosting and a little staining. The edges and corners are
good. There is a very slight bend to the blade looking down from the
top. The rosewood handle has some dings and a user name lightly scratch
marked on the back. This is true according to my reference square here
but if you want .001 accuracy, well go buy a Starrett. Just saying.
This ain't minty but for being around the 100 year old mark, it sure
ain't bad. $19.00

diameter and this weighs 6 1/4 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker.
This is in decent condition overall and was cleaned. The finish is worn
but some of it is there. The inside of the bell has a little patina.
The blade is clean other than a little frosting and there is a fair
amount to work with. That will need a quick sharpening. The screw works

Millers Falls 5 Inch Rosewood Tool Handle. Measuring 5 1/4" long and
this weighs 5 1/2 oz unboxed. The marks on the chuck are very faint but
I can read the 1868 year which is for Pat. No. 73,279 issued to Charles
H. Amidon of Greenfield, MA on Jan. 14, 1868 for the design of the chuck
used on this tool. This is in reasonable condition for the age and was
cleaned by someone else. The chuck shell has some small spots of light
pitting at the end and some wear to the cross hatching. The jaws are
good and the spring is present. The handle has some dings and light
wear. This does not have the storage compartment for the bits in the
end and I did not get any with this tool. This ain't minty but this is
not a very common size for one of these guys to say the least. $25.00

long, 2" wide, 1" high (off of the box) and this weighs 1 lb 2 3/4 oz

that makes this guy close to 53 years of age. This is in used but good
condition and was not cleaned. The coarse face looks to be unused. The
fine face has some light use and there is some staining that ran down
the sides. The box has some funky but nothing too bad. This ain't the
fanciest but it is a quality stone. $18.00

the 1980's. These are NOS, that's New Old Stock. But they have been
bouncing around boxes for a while. I did clean some light patina off of
the shafts and a few small spots on the blades. The edges had a few
light dings that I fixed with some file work. The handle finish is good
on both. These are quality and handy tools. $15.00

The Best Of The Rest

Two Karpenter Mortising Chisels. The upper one is a 1/4" measuring 10
5/8" from the edge to the end of the socket, the blade is 8" long, this
is 15 5/8" overall, the lower one is a 1/2" measuring 10 15/16" from the
edge to the end of the socket, the blade is 8" long, this is 15 1/2"
overall, and they weigh 1 lb 2 oz unboxed. Karpenter was a brand name
used by the Winsted Edge Tool Company best known for the T H Witherby
brand of tools. Look it up. These are in reasonably good condition and
were cleaned. Note these are straight, any bending you see is because
of camera lens distortion. The back of the 1/4" has some light frosting
and a few spots of light pitting down by the socket but nothing too bad.
The back of the 1/2" is good save for a few very light dots. The
sides and tops of both have some small spots of patina. Both of the
edges do have chips and will need a good sharpening. The sockets have
some light pitting. The handles are the original ones. They have some
staining but are good to go. These ain't perfect but they are quality
tools with a lot of life left in them. $55.00

Buck Bros 1/2 Inch Carving Tool Chisel. Measuring 4 15/16" from the
edge to the top of the handle, the blade is 3 5/8" long, this is 9 5/16"
overall, and this weighs 2 3/4 oz unboxed. This is in used but good
condition and was not cleaned. The machined front of the blade has some
coloration from being heat treated at the factory but nothing bad patina
wise. This is sharpened to a knife edge and that is good and sharp.
The back of the blade was never finished off pretty to start with. The
handle is good and has all of the original finish plus a coat of wax.
All in all this is a good tool that is ready to work. $17.00

Measuring 11 9/16" from the edge to the end of the socket, the blade is
8 5/16" long, the steel bit is 6 1/2" long, this is 16 3/8" overall, and
this weighs 13 1/2 oz unboxed. This is in good condition overall, it
was cleaned but it wasn't too bad to start with. The steel cutting bit
has one spot of pitting at the edge, some spots of light frosting also
up there, and a few stains and dots running the rest of the way but it's
clean for the most part. The edge is good and sharp. The rest of the
blade is good as well. The socket has a few spots of light pitting but
was never struck. The handle is the original one and has most of the
original finish. There is some staining and a few dings but it's solid.
I gotta say that these guys are sure getting few and far between,
especially in this length and condition. $35.00

but nothing too bad. The edges are good other than a little red
staining from the box. The box lid has a ripped corner and some wear.

on these tools. The cutting face of the blade has some light pitting.
The edge has some light dings but it's close to sharp. The hand carved
handle is good other than some stains. The tang goes all the way though
the handle and is peened over at the end. This ain't perfect but these
guys are sure getting hard to find. $40.00

back of the blade is clean other than some very light frosting. There
is a small light patch of pitting on the inside but the back is where
the money is with this guy. The edge will need a sharpening. The
handle is the original one. That has some stains, light dings, and user
initials scratched on the front but it's solid. This ain't pristine but
it sure ain't bad either. $17.00
