266478 "Stager, Scott P." <StagerS@m...> 2018‑09‑09 Keen Kutter K10 saw set
Found one of these in the wild yesterday. Nickel coating peeling on handle so
cheap.

Anyone know who might have made it? What name brand it is a relative of? I
think It looks a lot like the Stanley 42 series, but I’m no expert.

Tried Google - page after page of ones (and related stuff) for sale. No pure
reference links.

Reply to own post - Oops

My bad, it is NOT like the Stanley 42 series. It is what I would call straight
line - handles held at right angles to the saw plate.

If it looks like this one

http://oldetoolshop.com/jointer/miscpics/sawset0302.jpg

It's based on the Morrill patent sawset which was made by a number of
makers over the years.

The Taintor #7 was nickel plated:

I found one and have a friend who said “hey that’s the best one ever made” so I
gave it to him. Looked like it was stamped steel rather than cast

Very very similar. Only difference is that the saw plate holder or guide is a
screw (with lock nut) that goes through an extension of the main casting under
the adjustable round anvil. Likely a later modification with new patent. KK
Logo on front is identical as is the Keen Kutter spelled out and cast into
handle. There is a number cast into the moving handle, but can’t make it out.
2 sets of 3 numbers.

Sorry - don’t have a place to post a picture.

OK, why did the oldtools server throw away the quote levels that were in this
message I sent? My original in sent folder still has them. They sure make it
easier to read and keep track of who wrote what.
