These are NOS (that's New Old Stock) and were not cleaned. Note: these

There is little light funky and couple have some light rust spots from
laying around but nothing worth kicking the cat over. The handles have

Two Lufkin Machinist No 40 Series Calipers. On the left is a 3" No. 41
outside caliper, on the right is a 4" No. 42 inside caliper, and they
weigh 2 1/2 oz unboxed. These are NOS, that's New Old Stock. I did clean
off some oil residue on these (they were oiled at the factory). There is
a little still up in the joints and there and here. The tips of the No.
41 have a few stained spots (these weren't stored very well). Lufkin
machinist tools are every bit as good as their Starrett and Brown &

Measuring 12 13/16" overall, the blade is 8" long, 1 9/16" high (from

Jr, and they weigh 6 1/2 oz unboxed. These are NOS, that's New Old
Stock. The tools have some light scuffs from being bounced around but
nothing too bad. The rules are nice and clean. The boxes are good as

Tools of The Wood Trade
Two Rosewood Handle Hoof Knives. The upper one is a right hand cut No.
2 size, marked as shown, the blade is a little over 1/4" wide at the
tip, the lower one is a left hand cut Sklar (German maker of surgical
instruments) No. 3 size, the blade is 3/8" wide at the tip, and they
weigh 3 1/2 oz unboxed. These are in reasonably good condition and wear
cleaned. The blades have some staining and scratches but nothing too
bad patina wise. The edges feel good to the touch but they could stand
a quick sharpening. Both of the handles are rosewood or something
similar. They are good and the blades are in tight. These are quality
tools and good ones for spoon carving and other deep cuts. $32.00

Large Brass Compass Sole Violin Makers Spoke Shave. Measuring 4 15/16"
long, the blade is 1 3/8" wide, and this weighs 3 oz unboxed. Not
signed as to the maker. This is in reasonably good condition and was
cleaned. The body is good, there are a couple of dots on the sole that
look to be casting flaws. The blade does have some patina on the sides
of the slot, the cutting face is good other than some pin points and a
light patch of frosting, but there is lots to work with. The blade will
need a sharpening. This ain't perfect but these larger ones sure don't

Pair Small Brass Violin Makers Spoke Shaves Flat & Round Sole Working Tools
Two Small Brass Violin Makers Spoke Shaves. The blades are 15/16" wide,
the left one has a flat sole and is 3 13/16" long, the one on the right
has a round sole (front to back) and is 3 5/8" long, and they weigh 3
1/2 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. These are in reasonably
good condition and were cleaned. The bodies are good other than a
couple of stained spots. The sole on the flat one has a couple of light
scratches and the sole on the round one has some light roughness left
over fron when this was made. The blade in the flat sole one has some
tiny spots of light pitting on the cutting face, the other one is fairly
good other than a couple of dots, and both have some light pitting along
the slots. Both blades will need a sharpening. These ain't perfect but
they will get the job done. $34.00

Tiny Stearns Chair Makers Brace Spoke Pointer. The bell is 7/8" in
diameter and this weighs 1 1/4 oz unboxed. This isn't signed but the
decorative casting on the bell marks this as a Stearns. This is good
condition and was lightly cleaned. The finish is good. The blade is
clean other than a little frosting and a couple of dots. That will need
a sharpening. The screw works and the tang is good other than a couple
of tiny dings on the edges. These guys do not show up very often and
rarely in this kind of shape. $27.00

W Butcher 1/8 Inch Mortising Carving Chisel. Measuring 4" from the edge
to the top of the handle, the blade is 3" long, a hair wider than 1/8"
at the edge but it tapers down a little, this is 8 1/2" overall, and
this weighs 2 3/4 oz unboxed. This is in decent condition and was
cleaned. There is some overall light frosting on the blade. The back
has some scuff marks but nothing that can't be worked out as this is
sharpened which it will need. The handle is the original one. That has
some stains and dings and there is a thin check across the striking end,
but as long as you keep the 3lb sledge hammer away from this guy, it
shouldn't cause any problems. This ain't pristine but it is a handy
size and the quality of W Butcher edge tools has stood the test of time.

North Bros Yankee No 1446 2 Speed Hand Drill. This weighs 2 lbs 6 3/4
oz unboxed. The crank handle is marked Pat Pend, the handle has the
Apr. 15, 1913 patent date (Pat. No. 1,059,1320), and the chuck has 2
patent dates. This is in decent condition and was cleaned. The chuck
shell has some wear to the knurling and some scuffs on the front. The
chuck and jaws are good. The handle frame and wheel has some wear to
the finish but most of it is there. The crank handle has some dings and
wear, but it has most of the original finish. The speed control works.
The main handle also has some dings, wear, and somebody added a small
hanging hole. The handle does remove to allow for storage of bits.
This model never had a side knob. This ain't perfect but it sure ain't
bad considering the age and use of the tool. $36.00

New Haven Edge Tool 10 Inch Drawknife. Measuring 16 5/8" overall, the
blade is 9 15/16" long, 1 5/16" wide across the edge, and this weighs 1
lb 3 oz unboxed. This is in decent condition and was cleaned. There is
some light pitting and frosting on the steel portion of the back but
nothing too bad. The iron frame has some deeper spots. The edge has
some dings but it's fairly sharp. The top also has a few tiny dings but
fortunately this was spared the sledge hammer treatment. The front also
has some pitting spots. The handles are black walnut. They have some
dings and wear and both wiggle a little. The ferrules and edge caps
also have some light pitting. This ain't no picture of perfect but New

Buck Bros Cast Steel 1/2 Inch Flush Paring Chisel. Measuring 6 1/8"
from the edge to the end of the socket, the blade is 4 3/4" long, this
is 9 1/8" overall, and this weighs 4 oz unboxed. This is in reasonably
good condition and was cleaned. There are some scuffs on the back up by
the edge and a little frosting. There are a few dots heading down the
back and user initials lightly stamped in couple of places. The top of
the blade has some light patina as well. The socket has some light
pitting and I did clean a little mushrooming off of the end. The handle
is good replacement. This ain't minty but this is a very handy chisel

Auburn Tool Co No 155 5/8 Quarter Round Molding Plane. This weighs 1 lb
2 3/4 oz unboxed. This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.
The body is clean other than a few stains and a couple of light dings on
the heel. The sole has a little wear on the depth stop area at the toe,
some scratching along the fence, but nothing too bad overall. The mouth
isn't super tight but it was never messed with. The side of the
escapement was beveled at the factory. The wedge also good. The iron
is clean other than a couple of light scuffs on the cutting face. That
will need a quick sharpening. This ain't pristine but it sure ain't bad
and this is a not a very commonly found profile either. $30.00

Stanley No 3C Type 19 Smooth Or Smoothing Plane. This weighs 3 lbs
unboxed. This is a Type 19 and was made by Stanley between 1948 and
1961. This looks to be a later one. This is in reasonably good
condition and was cleaned. Note this is straight, any bending you see
is because of camera lens distortion, although why folks would think
that I would sell a bent plane is beyond me. The sides are good other
than a little frosting and a couple of tiny dings. The sole is also
clean other than a tiny chip off of the edge on the toe. The japanning
is original and close to perfect except on the tops of the sides. The
lever cap has some tiny dots of patina but the plating is still there.
The chipbreaker is good. The blade has some light stuff on the exposed
areas and back but the cutting face is clean and there is lots to work
with. The edge is slightly rounded to one side but the blade will need
a sharpening anyways. The tote and knob have the original finish plus a
coat of wax. There are some dings to the finish on both but they are
solid. All the screws work and were oiled. This ain't minty but like
almost all of the planes of this vintage, this one did it's tour of duty
as a carpenter's plane and it lived to tell the tale. $55.00

Early Hand Forged Drawknife. Measuring 14 1/2" overall (straight
across), the blade is 8 15/16" long, 1 1/16" wide at the center, 7/8"
and 15/16" at the ends, and this weighs 12 3/4 oz unboxed. Not signed
as to the maker. This is in decent condition and was cleaned. The
blade was made from an old file. There is some pitting on the inside of
the curve, the outside is fairly clean. The edge is good and it won't
take much to get it shaving sharp. The top was never hit. The handles
are good other than some dings and stains, the one wiggles a little, but
the blade tangs are peened over the ends and they ain't going anywhere.
This ain't pretty or perfect but it will get the job done. $26.00

Bennett Specialty 1909 Patent Adjustable Cabinet Scraper. Measuring 11
1/2" long, the blade is 3" wide, and this weighs 1 lb 1/2 oz unboxed.
John D. Vasey of Buffalo, NY was granted Pat. No. 908,629 on Jan 5, 1909
for the design of this tool which was made by the Bennett Specialty Mfg.
Co. also of Buffalo, NY. This is in decent condition overall and was
cleaned. There is a little patina on the head parts and the plating is
worn but it ain't like it was put on to 1950 Cadillac bumper standards
to start with. The adjuster works and was oiled as was the cap screw.
The blade was made by Geo Bishop & Co of saw making fame. That has some
stains, scuffs, and a little patina but it's not too bad. That would
need a sharpening but for my money, I'd source another blade and save
that one for the collector value. The handle has some dings and stains
but it's solid. This ain't the prettiest but then it wasn't made to do
a pretty job either. $27.00

Early Hand Forged Rivet Set Or Setter. Measuring 4 1/16" long, the post
hole is 3/16" in diameter, the dimple is 1/4", and this weighs 8 oz
unboxed. Not signed as to the maker, there is a user name proudly
stamped on the one side. This is in reasonably good condition and was
cleaned. The face is good and the hole and dimple are good sa well. I
did clean some sharp mushrooming off of the striking ends, that ain't
perfect but it's better than it was. This is a quality early tool that
rarely shows up in this kind of condition.

Wm Johnson Newark NJ Hand Forged No 2 Rivet Set or Setter. Measuring 4
3/16" long, the post hole is 3/16" in diameter, the dimple is 5/16", and
this weighs 7 oz unboxed. The William Johnson Company was a Newark NJ
tool maker in business from 1830 until 1957. This being hand forged, it
was made earlier rather than later in the company history. This is in
decent condition and was cleaned. There is some light patina on the
body but this was never finished off real pretty to start with. The
face has a few dings, but the post hole and dimple are good. I did take
some sharp mushrooming off of the striking end, that ain't perfect but
it's better than it was. This ain't minty, but it is a quality old

Solid Brass 6 oz Cross Peen Hammer. Measuring 7 9/16" overall, the head
is 2 1/4" long, the face is 3/5" wide, 5/8" high, the peen is 13/16"
wide, and this weighs 6 1/4 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker.
This is in reasonably good condition, the only cleaning I did, was to
pretty up the handle a touch. There is some frosting and what have you
on the head. The face is good other than a couple of tiny dings at the
lower edge. The peen is good. The handle has some stains and isn't
exactly parallel to the head. The head is on tight. This is a neat
looking hammer and this style does not show up very often, at least
around these here parts. $22.00

Shapleigh Hdw Co Leather Work Round Knife. Measuring 6" overall, the
blade is 4 5/16" across and 2 3/16" from the edge to the start of the
ferrule, and this weighs 2 3/4 oz unboxed. The mark is faint but I can
make out their diamond logo and Saint Louis. This was made by the Clyde
Cutlery Co for Shapleigh. This is in reasonably good condition and was
lightly cleaned. The blade has some staining and a few lightly pitted
spots but nothing too bad. The edge is good and it won't take much to
get it back to shaving sharp. The handle is mahogany. That has some
dings and wear but the blade is in tight. This ain't perfect but it
will get the job done. $55.00

This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned. There ain't much
to fuss about patina wise with this guy. There is a rough spot on the
one side of the face and some scuff marks but those are left over from
when this was made. The face has some chipping around the edge. The
peen has a little mushrooming and the edge will need a quick sharpening
but I will leave that in your capable hands. The punched eye is good to
go. This ain't the fanciest but it is a well made old tool. $18.00

Early German Cobblers Lasting Pliers. Measuring 7 7/8" long, the jaws
are 1 5/8" deep, 13/16" wide at the tips, and this weighs 13 oz unboxed.
Marked as shown. This has matching part numbers on both arms and the
joint screw. This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.
There is some light patina but nothing too bad. The jaws are good, the
teeth have some wear but there still is plenty to work with. The joint
screw does remove completely and does have some pliers marks on the
sides from being tightened. That does work loose as this is used. The
one hammer face is good, the other has some wear. The handle with the
tack claw has a slight twist to it. The claws have a little mushrooming
on the tips and wear. The other handle is good to go. This ain't
pristine but compared to the few of these early ones that I see, well it
sure ain't bad, and this is not very common tool, at least around here.

Collectible & Interesting Stuff
Early Small Hand Forged Hammer Poll Belt Axe. Measuring 11" overall,
the head is 4 7/8" long (across the center), the edge is 2 1/4" high
(straight across), and this weighs 1 lb 3 1/4 oz unboxed. Not signed
as to the maker. This is in fair condition and was cleaned. There is
some patina on the head. The edge has a couple of small chips. The
hammer poll does have some major chipping on 3 of the edges. The eye
looks to be good with no cracks that I can see. This does have the
narrow top eye, which is found on the early PA Dutch (German) axes. The
handle is a somewhat recent addition. That has some staining and there
is a markers mark stamped on the one side, but that could be made a
little more correct with a bit of rasp work. The head is on tight.
This does have it's problems but if it was in better shape, it would
have a much higher price. These smaller ones are not very common to say
the least. $37.00

Hand Forged Shingle Or Lathe Hatchet. Measuring 12 1/8" overall, the
head is 5 3/4" long (across the center), the edge is 2 1/16" high
(straight across), and this weighs 1 lb 2 oz unboxed. This is signed
but it's pretty dinged up over the mark and I can't make much out. This
is in reasonably good condition for the age and use and was cleaned.
There are some spots of light pitting on the blade and dings on both
sides of the eye. The face was never cross-hatched, at least that I can
tell. That has some dings and a small chip off of the one corner. The
edge has some dings but was sharpened recently. The handle is old and
could be the original one. That has some dings and stains left over
from a previous black paint job. There is also some chipping under the
eye on the blade side but the handle is solid and the head is on tight.
This ain't pristine but it sure ain't bad either. $24.00

Early Hand Forged Fireplace Trammel Chain. Measuring 30 1/4" overall in
length, the scroll end pot hook is 9 1/2" long, the bar hook is 4 1/2"
long, 1 1/2" wide at the end of the hook, and this weighs 2 lbs 15 3/4
oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. This is in reasonably good
condition for the age and use and was cleaned. There is some light
patina but this guy was never left out in the rain barrel. The pot hook
has a little wear to the insides of the hooks but nothing too bad. The
chain has 2 twisted and 10 straight links but they were forged by the
same hand. A couple have some voids around the forge welds at the ends
but they are solid. The bar hook is good to go. I sure ain't been
seeing too many of these guys around in this kind of shape and these
smaller ones aren't all that common to start with.

Big Old 2 1/2 lb Turned Steel Plumb Bob. Measuring 8 1/16" long, 1
7/16" in diameter, and this weighs 2 lbs 9 3/4 oz unboxed. Not signed
as to the maker. This is in decent condition and was cleaned. There is
some overall frosting and patina and some spots of light pitting. The
tip is a little dulled but that could be fixed. The string holes are
clear. This ain't no picture of perfection but these big ones sure
don't show up very often. A word of warning though, you might not want
to leave this lying around when the wifey sees last month's tool
purchases, just saying. $22.00

Early Fid Or Marlinspike. Measuring 5 3/8" from the tip to the top of
the handle, 8 15/16" overall, the blade is 7/16" in diameter at the
start of the handle, and this weighs 9 1/2 oz unboxed. Not signed as to
the maker. This is in decent condition and was cleaned by someone else.
The blade has some pitting at the tip and some light stuff heading
down towards the handle. There is a slight bent to the blade at the
tip. The stacked leather handle has some wear and a few tiny bits of
paint between the slices. The handle is on tight. This ain't minty but
tools like this got used hard and usually out in the weather. $30.00

Hand Forged European Style Cobblers Hammer. Measuring 12 7/8" overall,
the head is 6 3/16" long (straight across), the face is 1 7/16" in
diameter, the peen is 1 5/16" wide, and this weighs 1 lb 2 1/4 oz
unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. Somebody else cleaned it, put the
handle on it, painted the head black, and sprayed the handle with
something shiny and sticky. I cleaned off the paint and gunk on the
handle and a little patina left over on the head (and you guys think
this job is SO easy!). There is a little patina on the head and a few
spots of paint that didn't come off. The face has some light dings and
file marks (not from me!!). I did tone down some sharp mushrooming on
the edge. The peen is good other than a little roughness. The handle
is good and on tight. This ain't perfect, but it will get the job done.

Old Long Handle Oyster Or Clam Shucking Knife. Measuring 9 1/2" long,
the handle is 5/8" square, and this weighs 13 1/2 oz unboxed. Not
signed as to the maker. This is in decent condition and was cleaned.
There is some light frosting on the blade and a scuff mark on the back
from being sharpened. The tip has a hint of mushrooming, but the edges
are sharp. The handle has some dings and light patina. This ain't
perfect but as these guys go, well it sure ain't bad either. $24.00

Early Small Hand Forged Ball Peen Strap Hammer Head. Measuring 3 5/16"
long, the face is 13/16" in diameter, the peen is 11/16" in diameter,
and this weighs 6 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. This is in
decent condition and was cleaned. There is some overall patina. The
peen is good. The face has some dings and some chipping around the
edge. The eye has some light crusty inside and it is notched at the
front where an iron strap was used to secure the head as was the
practice. This ain't minty but it does have some age to it. $15.00
