Well, it’s been a year since my last FS list so I thot I would try again. Some
of this stuff has been sitting in the FS box since then so markdowns have
occurred. Oldtools terms for those w/ a bio. First definite request to hit my
in-box gets the prize. Payment by cash or check. Pictures are in Flicker, just
click on the photo and you will get options for enlarging the pics for close
inspection. I did not do a lot of pics so if you want to see more just ask and
I’ll get some more.

I have a small micrometer free for the asking.

SHARPENING STEELS

Top one in pic is a Russell Green River Works, smooth surface.

MALLET

Massive Maple burl mallet, 5 3/4” across, weighs 3 1/4 lb. Just the thing for
driving your pig stickers. I have owned this beast for about ten years and only
today did I see it is a manuf. piece. There is a faint marking that says STOSSL?
in a diamond. Google does not provide any info on the manuf.

BLOCK PLANE

Stanley #18 block plane. What makes this special is that it is a type 1 c. 1888;
what detracts is that there is a chip out of the casting on one cheek and an
owner’s name stamped on the other and a tiny chip in the mouth. No effect on
function but makes it a user rather than a collectable. Mouth is adjustable but
this was made before the eccentric was added to the block planes. See what P.
Leach has to say about the #18 here: http://www.supertool.com/StanleyBG

MOLDING PLANE

User made complex molding plane. This thing is huge. The cutter is a full 2
1/16” wide and made from a tapered bench plane blade. The overall length of the
plane is 11” and altho there is a knot above the escapement the body has not
distorted.

planes.

COMPASS

Nice little (5 1/2”) compass in brass and steel. A fairly common item, but this
one comes w/ a lifetime supply of leads. Marked DRP, so German in origin.

MARKING GAUGES

Stanley #65. This is not mint but durn close to it. Could not have been used
more than a dozen or so times. Cutter appears to have not been user sharpened
yet.

Japanese mortice gauge. The fence is fixed and both cutters slide and lock with
a single thumbscrew. The fence is 4 3/4” long which gives great stability.

Odd ball user made marking/cutting gauge. Well made piece. This is a case where
a picture is better than words to describe.

Small panel gauge. all steel, 13 1/4” beam; 6” fence. The fence is cast then
machined with a notch to fit over an edge snugly. There is an owner’s mark of
“R. Currea”. Given its construction and conical pin I’d say it was designed for
metal working, but a quick filing of the pin and it will serve for wood as well.

MITER BOX

Stanley #150 miter box. This smallish miter box accepts panel saws or back saws.
Comes w/ detents for the typical miter cuts and a lock screw for anything in
between. This one is complete including the adjustable length stop which is
often missing. A versatile and handy tool for under the bench. If you want it
mounted to a bench hook type base just ask and I will include it in the package.

JOINTER GAUGE

Attaches to all sizes of metallic planes by adjustable cams or to wooden planes
by normal #wood screws. Allows accurate planing of any angle and for you ham
fisted types allows accurate planing at 90 degrees. I have had this minty
jointer gauge sitting around for quite a while and always thot it was a Millers
Falls #88 but it is just slightly different than those pictured in the MF
catalogs. Turns out it is a Langdon Miter Box Co. piece from before they were
acquired by MF.

Here is a bit of Langdon history taken from Randy’s wonderful MF site:

“...the company faltered in 1875 and was moved from its original home in
Northampton, Massachusetts, to the village of Millers Falls. There, under the
guidance of David C. and George E. Rogers, production was restarted, new models
were developed and the company went on to become the foremost producer of
metallic miter boxes in the country. The firm, an independent entity located
within the Millers Falls Company factory, enjoyed close links to the much larger
operation. George E. Rogers served on the boards of both businesses, and the
Millers Falls Company eventually became the sole distributor of the Langdon
products. The Langdon Mitre Box Company retained its independence until 1907
when it merged with the Millers Falls Company. Millers Falls continued to
develop the line and branded its better miter boxes with the Langdon name until
the mid-1970s.”

SPOKESHAVE

MF #1 Cigar Shave. My favorite shave, esp. for inside curves. This one is as
found, unsharpnd and uncleaned, but at a price that can’t be beat. Sharpening

Flicker Gremlins were working overtime today. There were a number of pics that
came out as duplicates that I am not going bother to correct, but I do want to
add the logo on the big mallet in case someone recognizes this manufacturer.
