263628 <ecoyle@t...> 2017‑10‑20 re catalogue dating......
I have a similar catalog from Ashdown’s hardware north of the border It’s about
2.5” thick, hard covered and must have been a heck of an expense to publish.
from the days before Alberta became a province and the CDN govt was worried
about US intrusion into the western territories. It too is undated, but I was
able to extablish an approximate date by looking at the Stanley planes. f I
recall correctly it had to do with the mfg dates of the 45 vs the 55

As you flip through it, these real early catologues also listed patent dates, so
you can keep track of the latest date, and that would give you an appproximate
earliest date.

Mine is so early it lists muzzle loader weapons, and the condition ain’t so
great, but when I get that old, I’ve no doubt I’ll have about the same amount of
cracks and fissures.

Something to be preserved to be sure, as I have been picking up the “heavy duty”
catalogues for at least as long as I’ve been on oldtools (? 25issh years) and
this was the earliest I’ve ever seed. Perhaps it is different south of the
border. In yer capacity as a museum participant, maybe a phone call to a larger
museums archive dept may shed som additional light on it’s value, but to me it
is a valuable donation (White glove stuff buddy!)

Hope this helps
