another thing to look for is "wootz" steel. said to come from india,
possibly on the trade routes, possibly being a component of the uhlfbert
swords.
also, be aware that there are (iirc) about 40 "real" uhlfbert" swords, and
a (roughly) equal number of contemporary forgeries that put the name on a
sword made with less skill and non-wootz-style (crucible steel-style)
iron/steel.
