157404 "Chris Arthurs" <carthurs@e...> 2006‑02‑23 BIO and Hello Chris Arthurs
Bio

I was born in the fall of 1953 in Brockville Ontario Canada.

I now live on the shore of Lake Huron in the Town of Brights Grove (a point
in Ontario just south of the "thumb" of Michigan and across the bridge from
Fort Gratiot / Port Huron).

My wife and I have three older children out on their own ,one "special
needs" child Emilia to keep an eye on us at home, and one Grandson (git?) .

I have dabbled in woodworking off and on most of my life. In the years of
apartments and small children I sustained my interest with regular trips to
the news stand (FWW etc.). In the years of small houses and little cash we
repaired and refinished furniture and rebuilt old trailers for vacationing.
Pretty much the stuff of life I'm sure you're all familiar with. A little
cash, a little ingenuity, and the freedom to enjoy the result.

How I got here

A couple years ago my father retired (yea we tend to stay at it pretty long
in this family) and now on his own, he took up housekeeping just down the
road from me. I've helped him rebuild and set up lots of 'lectric tools'
and equip a small shop from which he's turned out an amazing amount of
work.. Dad's breathing isn't what it used to be, so I started thinking
maybe I could introduce him to some "finer" work (and less dusty) produced
with hand tools. We sat down with my #76 FWW (T. F.work bench issue) and
ordered a pile of Maple, looked at all manner of new, old, antique tools and
started buying.

I guess it was the planes that did it. Standing there with a type 11
Stanley in my hand a couple others on my desk and foam peanuts and packaging
around my feet I couldn't help but feel the history and care that would
allow something approaching a 100 years to reach me in such condition. These
were mine, I'd just have to order more for Dad's shop.

Not too long after anyone with an interest in fine tools, woodworking and
fellowship starts looking around they rub up against the good folks that
make up this group. So from a new guy standing looking up at the porch,

Hi, I'm Chris
