Alas, Dave and non-ferrous casting Galoots.

It was located just west of Pulaski on Kinzie street, on Chicago's west
side. It opened in the fifties as ABC Pattern and Foundry, it closed
it's doors officially this year after being bought out by another
company a couple of years ago called American Precision Casting also in
the Chicago area. The company that purchased it systematically laid off
the employees (some of whom had 30 years under their belts) and moved
the customer business to their plant.

The last family owner of ABC, Alan Cervenka, treated Russ and I like
real patternmakers. Letting us cast whatever patterns we came up with.
His father, Chuck was in the process of retiring when I walked in the
door. He used to walk through the pattern shop while I was working on
something and tell me about the old days. As is usually the case, I
appreciated Alan's generosity immensely, but failed to fully comprehend
the magnitude of my good fortune until it was too late.
I still have many photos of the place including some archival material
that Alan gave me.
I'll put a page or two together about the place when I can.

Cheers,
Wes
