ABC is no longer in business. Wes and I attended the auction so some of its posessions will live on. They did sand casting rather than lost wax. Another nearby foundry has the patterns from ABC (including some of mine) and does sand casting. They can be reached at the old ABC phone number. The other foundry is American Precision Castings- somewhat confusing as its initials are APC. Pictures of our trip to ABC were lost with the demise of @home.com. Did anyone save a copy? It was part of the Galootapalooza III recap. http://www.galootapalooza.org As for lost wax, the community college near my house offers a continuing education class in it through the art department. I'll think I'll take the class sometime soon to expand my horizons. Russ Allen |

John, Sorry for such a late reply to this thread, but I have an old reference to: ABC Manufacturing & Foundry (773 826-3413). I believe that they are somewhere in IL, just outside of Chicago. I really don't know much about this company, but I do believe that several Galoots visited the place. Dave (Lurking... hesitantly looking down (up) "the slippery slope") |

Alas, Dave and non-ferrous casting Galoots. It was located just west of Pulaski on Kinzie street, on Chicago's west side. It opened in the fifties as ABC Pattern and Foundry, it closed it's doors officially this year after being bought out by another company a couple of years ago called American Precision Casting also in the Chicago area. The company that purchased it systematically laid off the employees (some of whom had 30 years under their belts) and moved the customer business to their plant. The last family owner of ABC, Alan Cervenka, treated Russ and I like real patternmakers. Letting us cast whatever patterns we came up with. His father, Chuck was in the process of retiring when I walked in the door. He used to walk through the pattern shop while I was working on something and tell me about the old days. As is usually the case, I appreciated Alan's generosity immensely, but failed to fully comprehend the magnitude of my good fortune until it was too late. I still have many photos of the place including some archival material that Alan gave me. I'll put a page or two together about the place when I can. Cheers, Wes Dave Swanson wrote: > > John, > > Sorry for such a late reply to this thread, but I have an old reference > to: ABC Manufacturing & Foundry (773 826-3413).
