Obligatory bio for recent joiner:
I'm a geologist by trade, so have polished a lot more rocks on glass plates
to micron tolerances than plane irons. Grew up on a farm, so have plenty of
experience with *basic* hand tools--I can cut as square a line as anybody
with a dull junky saw. I love auger bits. Spent a lot of time in my youth
with no guidance or proper references making wood projects (but hey! once
got champion in the 4-H State Fair). Now I'd like to get back into it again
and indulge my perfectionist leanings. I'm torn--I love the mechanical
workings of machines, but I sure do love quiet and hand-work too. I'll try
not to occupy bandwidth with inane questions (like the above??)--I learn a
lot more by listening than talking. One of the things I'm working toward is
building horse carts. We drive, competitively sometimes, and I'd like to
put some ideas into solid form. Can you imagine, actually using a spoke
shave to ...
