The Sargent #79 solves the problem by giving you a
built-in "knob" (a protrusion at the front to hook your
thumb around).  Works better than the Stanley #78
IMHO.  Don't know about the woodie.  It's too hot
in Texas to buy those firewood things.  ;-)
