271762 Mick Dowling <spacelysprocket@b...> 2020‑09‑12 Weird cutter blade. Was (embarrassingly) Weird Hinge.
GGs

Another couple of items that were in the old tool box that delivered the small
double action hinge debacle. A mystery cutter, and a tool component.

First 2 pictures are of the mystery cutter beside a Stanley router plane. I was
certain that it was some sort of additional cutter for the router, not so sure
now. But it does look familiar. Any clues?

3rd and 4th picture are another mystery item. I know what it is, I wonder if
anyone else does? Part of a tool. The pictures might not be of any use to
someone who regularly would have used the tool.

Hi Mick,

That would be the slitting cutter for Stanley #45 & #55.
They were/are completely and perfectly interchangeable with any draw or
box that contained any other multi part plane or tool in an ordinary
workshop.

Looks like a cutter that screws on to the vertcal shaft of the router
plane. Veritas/Lee valley have supposedly direct replacement cutters,
you might like to have a look at their replacement router cutters.
(Just happened to buy one recently to make a wooden router)

I agree with Peter McBride about the first item. Yes, a slitting cutter
for a Stanley 45 or 55 or other maker's clone.

For example, the Record 405:

http://www.marquis-kyle.com.au/405.pdf

Instructions are on page 11, and a picture of the item on page 21.

As to the other item, I have no clue. Looking forward to the reveal.

I think Esther is referring to the spear blade attachment for the blade
shown on the right, bit I think Mick’s example is much bigger and agree
with the slitting cutter diagnosis.

Kirk off to another day in our murky gloomy smoky corner of the world.
Think I’ll fire up some gas powered tools and make it worse. Not.
