Hi, I’m a new member but have referred to this site for a lot of information. I’ll post my bio soon. Does anyone know if Tim Kelly is still producing his MF 1 circular shave clone and replacement blades and have his contact info? I have a MF 1 and the blade is near the end of its useful life. Seeing how difficult these are to sharpen, I really don’t want a used blade that’s been messed with, and finding a NOS in the wild is near impossible. If Tim is still offering them I’ll buy it. I’ve searched this and other sites for contact information but none of it is current. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Steve Sent from my iPhone |

Tim has gone dark. His contact information has been dead for quite some time. I've chatted with vendors who used to retail his stuff, and he preferred to not be found by the public. I recently bought a replacement blade off ebay from St James Tool Works. Here is their Ebay store front. https://www.ebay.com/str/the-st-james-bay-tool-co?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 He doesn't have any listed currently, but watch his list, or ping him off another item, ask when they will come up again. The text was Reproduction Millers Falls #1 spoke shave blade He seems to make or release stuff in small batches, guess it keeps the value up. So if you see something you need, grab it, as it may not be up very long. I swore I saw a marking gauge fence or wear shoe once, and never since. I used to look weekly, now weakly. Hi Steve, (forgive the top-post, but my webmail's quoting doesn't work with the list). Tim Kelly was making cigar shaves and MF replacement blades in 2013, and selling them on fleabay as username "bennetville." I knew this was in TFA and still had a hard time finding it: http://swingleydev.com/ot/get/243666/thread/#243666 I think that ebay username was defunct last I checked, but Josh Clark (later in the thread) may still have his email address. Also, I don't know who was watching, but one of Tim's replica's just sold for $152.50 plus shipping. I saw it appear at $30, and didn't expect it to go anywhere near that value, and was not disappointed. https://www.ebay.com/itm/184288323787 To Adam's point, Bennetville was a saved search for me, and they have 82 positive feedbacks in the past 12 mos, 14 in the past month. I saw that and was ready to bid, but since I already have a MF #1 and really only need a new blade, once it went past $80 I was out. To see it go for that price plus $20 shipping is more than a bit excessive in my opinion. Especially since, although listed as new, the blade appears to have been botched in an attempt to sharpen it. Here’s an interesting little tidbit. Bennetville is an area near Yosemite in California. I know back in the day Tim lived somewhere in that vicinity, so based on his eBay username I wonder if he’s still around that area. Anyway, thanks for your responses. Steve Sent from my iPhone |

Yes, I gave up at $35 plush shipping, more than I've paid for any of my #1s. Yes, Tim used to be fairly local to us. I think he moved to Texas somewhere around when his hiatus started. But I can't find anything to prove that right now. KE On Mon, May 18, 2020 at 11:42 AM stephen rosenthal |

This thread is giving me a chuckle, since I was the bid at $32. I knew it would go for more but threw in a bid just in case. I was also shocked at the closing price. But since I own a Kelly original from his early days it was fun to watch. But I’ll keep mine, thanks. Bill |

That seems a more reasonable price, Kirk. Don, amazed that some prices continue to go beyond all reason, though beyond reason seems to be the order of these days... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kirk Eppler via OldTools" |

I always marvel at the prices people pay for used Lie Nielsen tools. I’ve seen a number of them sell for more than the price of a new item readily available from Lie Nielsen. I’m not referring to collectibles or items no longer manufactured. Are people that dumb? I don’t get it. Steve Sent from my iPhone |

Tim lived in Kernville. Certainly Sequoia National Park neighborhood, but South of it. He had a Po Box when I was in touch. His Email address at the time indicated CSUB.... Cal State University at Bakersfield His work was really incredible.... Access to him was always tough.... Frank Filippone BMWRed735i@g... |

Most of us are dumb some of the time. Some are dumb all of the time... I suspect the same thing happens on the Bay as happens at live auctions, or on trips to the mall or car dealer for that matter. People neglect to set themselves a limit, get excited about something, and act on the notion that he who hesitates is lost. Sober second thought doesn't enter into their process. I ordered a KTW 'Cigar' shave around 1992, and it didn't arrive for two or three years. It was beautiful, with Birdseye Maple handles. But by that time it arrived I had acquired and fettled an 'actual' MF#1---with pre-drilled hang-hole ---and discovered that I didn't really need such a tool. I sold the pretty one at the PNTC around 2015. Should've held on to it, but what tool do I NOT regret letting go? live and learn--gam in OlyWA How horrible it is to have so many people killed!---And what a blessing one cares for none of them! Another data point. It was out of my price range when it first showed up a week ago. https://www.ebay.com/itm/No-1-cigar-spokeshave-Kelly-Tool-Miller- Falls-2-extra-blades-bubinga-handles-/164576336807?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l4929 2">https://www.ebay.com/itm/No-1-cigar-spokeshave-Kelly-Tool-Miller-Falls-2 -extra-blades-bubinga-handles-/164576336807?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292 Kirk Eppler from the Droid |
