February is underway.  Been kind of a strange winter this year, a bit of
snow there and here, but lots of rain, and the always fun freezing
variety as well.  Needless to say, spring can't come soon enough.

Uncommon Stanley No 036 Combination Rule.  This weighs 5 1/2 oz
unboxed.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  The boxwood has
some staining and a bit of gunk or glue on the one leg.  The brass has
some stained spots.  The joint has a little play.  The level vial has
some gunk on it but the vial is good.  The steel rule has some frosting
and light pitting and the top of the thumb slot is worn so you have to
work it out from the top.   This sure ain't minty but these guys are a
lot less common than their Chapin-Stephen's cousins.  $125.00

P S & W Patent 1888 T-Auger Handle.  Measuring 17 3/4" long and this
weighs 15 3/4 oz unboxed.  Obed Peck of Rowe, MA was granted Pat. No.
379,877 on Mar. 20, 1888 for the design of this tool.  This is in decent
condition and was cleaned.  The maple handle has some dings and stains
and there are thin checks on both sides of the slot but it's solid
enough to use.  The hole for the tang of the bit was tapered a little on
the underside.  The screws and nuts work and the plates are good and do
remove.  This ain't minty but these guys were made to be used and this
one still can be.  $24.00

from when this was made.  The face is good other than some tiny chips on
the edge.  The peen is also good.  The punched eye has a little crusty
inside but it's solid.  This ain't the fanciest but it will get the job
done.  $18.00

older ones rarely are.  $15.00

much in the way of patina other than a few dots. The tip and chuck are

good.  This ain't pristine but it will get the job done.  $15.00

edges are 1 1/2" wide, and this weighs 1 lb 13 1/4 oz unboxed.  Not
signed as to the maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.
There is the usual patina found on these tools.  Both edges have been
dressed down a bit and could stand a touch up.  The punched eye is good
other than the fact that it's on a little bit of an angle to the body
(the blacksmith must have had a rough night eh?).  These guys sure have
been few and far between of late. $20.00

from the top of the edge to the top of the handle, the blade is 5 1/8"
long, this is 13 13/16" overall, and this weighs 11 1/2 oz unboxed.
This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There is some light
pitting on the one side of the blade and some frosting on the other
side.  The handle is old.  That does have a check down the one side but
the blade is in tight thanks to a lead ferrule that is big enough to use
as a spare tire on a Mini Cooper.  There are some dings on the end.
This ain't pristine but these older ones rarely are and it is a quality
tool.  $17.00

condition and was cleaned.  There is some light pitting and frosting on
the inside of the sweep.  The edge is good.  The back also has some
roughness but those were usually not finished off real pretty like.  The
handle is original and good save for a little staining.  This ain't
pristine but it will get the job done.  $14.00

also has some light wear and dings.  The locking screw does it's job and
was oiled.  This ain't pristine but it will get the job done.  $14.00

Two Paring Chisels.  The upper one is a 1/4" Dunlap, measuring 6 7/8"
overall, the blade is 4 1/2" long, the lower one is a 3/4" Worth,
measuring 6 9/16" overall, the blade is 4" long,  and they weigh 6 1/2
oz unboxed.  Dunlap was a brand name used by Sears on some of the their
wood working tools and Worth tools were made by P. S. & W. for Bigelow &
Dawes Co of Boston, Mass prior to WWII.  These are in reasonably good
condition and were cleaned.  The Dunlap is clean on the back and overall
other than a few dots on the socket.  The Worth has some overall
staining and a scuff on the back.  The edge on that will need some
work.  Both sockets are good.  These will need handles, I don't have any
here that fit. These ain't perfect but they sure ain't bad and they are
quality tools.  $19.00

Early Hand Forged Denglestock PA Dutch Scythe Sharpening Anvil &
Hammer.  The denglestock is  6 1/16" long, the face is 1 3/16" wide,
the hammer is 9 7/16" overall, the head is 3 5/16" long, the face is
15/16" square, the peen is 1 1/16" wide, and they weigh 1 lb 10 oz
unboxed.   Not signed as to the maker.  Now what's a denglestock (also
spelled dengelstock and a bunch of other ways as well), you ask?  Well
them old PA Dutch (German) farmers, being of a thrifty (also know as
cheap) bunch, instead of grinding down their scythe blades, would stick
the denglestock into a stump or the top of a fence post and using a
cross peen hammer (called the dengle of all things) would draw out the
edge of the blade till it was sharp and then dress it with a stone.
Pretty neat eh?  These are in decent condition and were cleaned.  The
denglestock has some overall patina and there is some chipping to the
iron body on the one side where the steel face is laid.  The spike end
was sharpened recently.  The head on the hammer has some dings, punch
marks, and user initials. The face has some dings and the peen is good.
The handle is old and could be the original one.  That has some chipping
on the front below the eye and stains and dings.  The head is on tight
thanks to a big wedge that sticks out a little.  These ain't minty but
sets like these rarely show up anymore.  $45.00

Chapin-Stephens Rosewood Marking Gage Or Gauge.  The beam is 8 11/16"
long and this weighs 5 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker, but the
oval head and the parallel lines along the ruled area mark this as one
of their products.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  The
beam has some wear on the underside and some dings on the top from the
screw.  The beam is straight and the tip is good.  The head has some
dings on the edges but no real wear on the faces.  The brass screw
works.  This ain't minty but these guys sure don't show up very often,
at least around these here parts.  $17.00

to be one of the older ones.  This is in reasonably good condition and
was cleaned.  There ain't much in the way of patina other than a little
funky up inside the spring area.  The screw has a few light dings but it
travels the full distance.  The tips and spring are good to go.  This

Starrett No 133 15 Inch Engineers & Plumbers Level.  This all weighs 3
lbs 4 1/4  oz unboxed.  This is in used but reasonably good condition
and was cleaned.  The machined surfaces have some frosting, scuffs, and
a few dings.  The finish is original and about 98% plus a few tiny bits
of paint that didn't want to come off.  All three clear level vials are
good.  The locking screw for the adjustable vial works and the table is
readable.  The wooden box has some stains, wear, and a few slivers off
of the one edge and the lid, but it's solid.  This ain't pristine but it
sure ain't bad and the wood boxes don't show up very often.  $70.00

they are clean for the most part.  They also have some light pitting on
the sides and tops.  The sockets also have some patina and they 1/2" has
a whisker of mushrooming on the outside.  They will need handles, I

bad.  The tip on the screwdriver was dressed at some point but it's good
to go.  The edge on the countersink could stand a quick touch up.  The
tangs have some dings and the screwdriver bit had a little mushrooming
removed.  These ain't minty fresh but they sure ain't bad.  $15.00

scuffs up by the edge.  The top has a few frosted spots.  The edge will
need some work.  The handle has some dings and light wear.  The strike

occupational hazard with these guys.  The edge is good. The handle has
some scaling left over from when this was made and a little patina as
well.  There is a wee bit of mushrooming on the end.  This ain't minty
but it sure ain't bad and Stortz is a collectible maker of these tools.

The head has some light pitting and dings on the sides.  The face also
has some dings and wear and I did rule a file over some sharp bits of
mushrooming on the edges.  The claws are good.  THe handle is old but
probably not the original one.  That has some dings and stains but it's
solid.  I did tap in the wedge and the head is on tight sitting here.

1/4" across the outside of the tips, 3/16" across the insides, and this
weighs 1 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This is in reasonably
good condition and was cleaned.  The head has some frosting, staining,
and a few spots of light pitting.  The edge feels good to the touch.
The rosewood handle has a repaired check under the ferrule and a few
light dings.  The head won't be coming out anytime soon either.  This
ain't pristine but I sure don't sell too many of these guys around with
this kind of handle.  Just saying.  $18.00

Unusual Brace Style Adjustable Wrench.  Measuring 12 1/4" long, the
sweep is 8". the jaws are 11/16" across when closed, and this weighs 1
lb 15 1/4 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This is in decent
condition and was cleaned.  There is some frosting and light patina
overall.  The jaws have a little wear on the tips.  There is some funky
inside the chuck.  The chuck looks like it should rotate but I can't get
it to move.  The grip and pad are painted hardwood. They have some wear
to the finish and a few dings but both are solid and spin freely.  This
ain't the fanciest but it is neat older tool.  $24.00

face is 7/8" square, the peen is 15/16" wide, and this weighs 14 1/2 oz
unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker, this is a tinsmith's panel
hammer.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.  There are some
dings and overall light pitting on the head.  The face has some small
chips around the edge and some frosting and dings.  The peen also has
some dings.  The square punched eye is good to go. This ain't pretty or
perfect but it does have some age to it and it will get the job done.

1/4" long (straight across), the lower one is 7", and they weigh 4 oz
unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  These are in reasonably good

are good.  These ain't pristine but they will get the job done.  $19.00

Detroit Stove Works Anvil Paperweight.  Measuring 4 1/4" long, 2 3/16"
high, and this weighs 7 1/2 oz unboxed.  There is 22 stamped on the
base, might be a year or a production run number.  This is in decent
condition and was lightly cleaned.  Just light brushing and wash to get
rid of some crusty.  This is some kind of diecast metal.  The original
gold paint is worn but some of it is present. There is some overall
patina going on and it is missing a little bit of the horn.  This ain't
minty but these guys rarely are.  $40.00

Three Vintage Wood Handle Leather Tools.  Top to bottom, there is a No.
6 edge beveler measuring 5/16" across the outside of the head, 1/8"
across the inside of the groove, a No. 11 and a No. 18 stitch marking
wheel, and they weigh 3 1/2 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.
These are in decent condition and were cleaned.  The head of the edge
beveler has some staining near the front of the back and a pitted spot
farther down, and a little pitting on the sides on the top but nothing
that will interfere with this being used.  Both of the wheels are good
and leave a strong mark.  There is a little pitting on the sides and
shafts.  The handles are japanned hardwood.  They have some wear and
dings and the grain on the No. 11 is a little rougher.  They are solid
and the heads are in tight.  These ain't pretty or perfect but they will
the job done. $50.00

lower one is 5 3/16" long, and they weigh 1 3/4 oz unboxed. Not signed
as to the maker. These are in decent condition and were cleaned. The
handle on the upper one is good other than some stains and the chuck
works.  The handle on the lower one has some wear around the center but
it's solid.  The tips both have a little light pitting.  They will need
a sharpening.  These ain't minty but they sure ain't getting any easier
to come by.  $18.00

Hand Forged Name Stamp.  Measuring 3 15/16" long, the figures are 1/4"
high, and this weighs 9 1/4 oz unboxed.  The mark is J. Lundy. Not
signed as to the maker, there is a different name stamped in a couple of
places on the handle, my guess is that this was original a stone mason's
tool.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned. There is some
overall patina.  The figure was struck a little uneven and has some wear
but there still is plenty left.  The striking end had some mushrooming
removed at some point before this got here and that is good to go.  This
is what it is, but it is a collectible old tool.  $18.00

Blacksmith Hand Forged Slag Chipping Hammer Head.  Measuring 6" long, 1
1/16" across the straight edge, and this weighs 11 oz unboxed.  Not
signed as to the maker.  This is in decent condition and was cleaned.
There is the usual patina found on these tools.  I dressed the pointy
end a little but that could stand a little more work.  The straight edge
has a small chip off of the one end and could also stand a little
dressing.  There is some chipping around the top of the eye but there
still is plenty there to put on a handle.  This ain't pretty or perfect
but it will get the job done. $15.00

AMT Chip Carving Knife.  Measuring 2 1/2" from the tip to the top of the
handle, 8 1/8" overall,  the blade is a little over 3/8" wide, and this
weighs 2 oz unboxed.  AMT sold several different grades of chip knifes
and this one of the better ones.  This is in reasonably condition and
was not cleaned.  The blade is pristine and sharp. The handle has a
little chipping on the one one edge and there are a couple of checks to
the grain at the end but it's solid.  This ain't the fanciest but it
will get the job done.  $14.00

Santo Fluted Tapered Reamer For A Brace.  The tool goes from  1/8" to 1
1/4" and this all weighs 4 1/2 oz unboxed.  Made in Japan. This is NOS
(that's New and very Old Stock) and was not cleaned. The tool has some
oil or grease on it from the factory but it's new under that.  The box
has a little character.  This is the tool to have for cleaning out
mushrooming on the insides of chisel sockets. I use them all the time
here.  $16.00

Knapp & Cowles 8 Inch Turnscrew Or Screwdriver.  Measuring 8 1/2" long,
the tip is 1/4" wide, and this weighs 2 3/4 oz unboxed. The Knapp &
Cowles Mfg. Co. was a  Bridgeport CT maker of ice tools and turncrews
around 1890.  The mark is faint at the one end but I figured it out.
This is in decent condition and was cleaned. THe blade has some light
pitting on both sides.  The tip is slightly rounded but good.  The
handle has a check under the ferrule and some stains and dings but it's
solid and the blade is in tight.  This ain't pretty or perfect but it
will get the job done.   $16.00

unboxed.  This is ruled in 10th's and 100th's on the front and 32nd's
and 64th's on the back.  This is in used but good condition and was not
cleaned.  There are some scuffs on both sides and user initials on the
back.  The edges and corners are good and all the rulings are readable.
The case has a little staining.  This ain't minty but it will get the
job done.  $16.00

7/8" long, the tip is 1/8" by 3/16" square, and this weighs 8 oz
unboxed.  Not signed as to the maker.  This is in decent condition and
was cleaned.  There ain't much in the way of patina to fuss about.  The
tip has a wee bit of mushrooming at the end but the edges are good.
Somebody (not me), reforged down some mushrooming on the striking end.
The eye was drilled out a bit, but there is plenty left here.  This
ain't perfect but it will get the job done. $15.00

3/8" high, the face is 3/4" square, and this weighs 14 1/4 oz unboxed.
Not signed as to the maker.  This is in decent condition and was
cleaned.  There is a little overall patina.  The face has some dings and
some mushrooming on the one end.  That could stand a little dressing.
The top has a little flattening from being struck.  This ain't for heavy
duty work but it is a handy tool for the small jobs. $17.00

Tyzack Turner No 660 Talisman 22 Inch 10 PT CC Panel Saw.  This weighs 1
lb 6 3/4 oz unboxed.  This is NOS, that's New Old Stock, and was not
cleaned.  There ain't nothing at all to fuss about with this guy.  The
blade is shiny and sharp.  There is a little bit of the protective
coating showing at the toe and a couple of light dings from riding in
the box.  The tote also has couple of tiny dings on the back but the saw
nuts are as good as they get.  This is a quality tool made by an well
respected English saw maker and I have been selling and shipping saws
now for over 25 years so I know what I'm talking about.  $30.00

Vintage Cast Iron Hand Vise Or Handvise.  Measuring 5" long, the jaws
are 1 7/16" wide, and this weighs 14 1/4 oz unboxed.  Not signed as to
the maker.  This is in fair condition and was cleaned. There is some
overall patina.  The jaws have some pitting on the tops.  The cross
hatching is worn on the one face but it's fairly good on the other
face.  The jaws close up fairly tight.  The screw was replaced at some
point in time and the wing nut is home grown as well.  Somebody added
some solder to keep the screw head captive but that is worn.  The screw
head moves a little but it does stay put to close the jaws.  The spring
and joint do their job.  This one ain't pretty or perfect but it will
get the job done.  $23.00

Walker No 2 Cobblers Lasting Pliers.  Measuring 8 3/16" long, the jaws
are 5/16" wide at the tips, and this weighs 8 3/4 oz unboxed. John
Walker is listed as a Saddlers' Tool Maker in the 1818 Wrightsons
Directory of Birmingham England.  This is in decent condition and was
cleaned.  There is some overall patina.  The jaws are good and the teeth
still have some bite to them.  The joint is good with no play.  The
handles are also good other than light pitting.  This is not a very
commonly found maker of these tools to say the least.  $22.00

Tabor Mfg Co 4 Inch 1885 Patent Speed Indicator.  Measuring 4" long and
this weighs 2 1/2 oz unboxed.  Harris Tabor of New York, NY was granted
Pat. No. 325,991 on Sept. 8, 1885 for the design of this tool.  This is
in reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  The body has a few dots
and some scuffs but nothing too bad.  The plating on the wheel is worn a
little on the front and a little more on the back.  The spring loaded
tip is good and this spins freely. This ain't pristine but it is not a
very common tool, at least in my travels.  $30.00

couple of pitted spots and some frosting.  The edges have some light
dings and the corners have a little wear.  The rulings are all
readable.  The handle has some shop numbers stamped on the sides, but
other than that they are clean.  The plating is good save for a little
funky.  This is true.  This ain't perfect but it will get the job done.

1/4" wide across the edge, and this weighs 9 1/4 oz unboxed.  This is in
reasonably good condition and was cleaned.  Overall there isn't much in
the way of patina.  There is just a whisker of mushrooming on the top.
The steel cutting face has some frosting and light pitting for the first
1/2 and some spots after than but most of that will work out as this is
sharpened, which it will need.  This ain't perfect but they ain't making
these guys no more also.  Just saying.  $18.00

Emmert Turtleback Patternmaker Vise To Restore.  This is in as found,
fresh from the shop condition.  There is a bunch of saw dust residue and
shop patina from decades of use.  The front jaw wiggles and it looks
like the inside of the front jaw has some chipping around the hole for
the shaft, but I can't say for sure.  The hinge on the mounting bracket
doesn't move but I didn't really nuts with it.  The main screw does
work.  This is missing the tilt bracket and rod but most of the are.
This is what it is but for the money you ain't gonna do much better.
This is PICKUP only here at my shop here in Nesquehoning PA. $265.00
