Rule is 24 inches and marked No. 4R Grad. Starrett Hardened. Rule is in
good shape with some light staining. Protractor Head is marked The L. S. S.
Co. Athol Mass USA No. 490 and has good level vial in it. Square head and
Center Head are unmarked. Square head Has the scribe in place and the level
vial is good. All the heads have the smooth finish on them that I think
they used on their hardened offerings, but nothing but the rule is marked
Hardened. Heads could use a light cleaning, but will be a nice set.

T9 - Stanley No. 280 Butt Mortiser - $10
I have one of these in my inventory and it is a rare tool mostly owing to
the fact that nobody recognizes what it is (or maybe cares). This is the
second or maybe third one I have seen. It is in the Miscellaneous section
in Walters big book and he lists the uses as Serrated chisel cutter bit
mortises in butt hinges on doors and cabinets by a ratchet mechanism. Can
be used for butt mortises from 1 3/4 to 3 1/2 with a uniform depth of cut.
This one needs some cleaning and rehab. The handle is bent over, blade is
marked PAT. 1603652 and PATS Pending. A weird Stanley tool.

T10 - The Stanley Plane - Alvin Sellens - $25
An undeniable classic by Alvin Sellens. This one really started it all.
Copyright is 1975 by The Early American Industries Association, this is the
Second Printing 1977. 216 pages long (to give you an idea, John Walter
devotes 145 pages to planes in his book Antique & Collectible Stanley Tools
Guide to Identity & Value). Has a numerical listing of all the planes
produced by Stanley with pictures, information about names, general usage,
date of offerings, length, weight and general info on the planes. Also has
sections about Stanley and the people of Stanley. I would say that this is
an indispensable reference for the user and collector of Stanley planes. A
true classic. Good shape with dust jacket as shown.

T11 - The Stanley Forty-Five Combination Plane History, Identification -
Heckel No. 45 - $10
A great reference book that I use all the time. This one is in decent
shape. Some crazing of the plastic on the cover and some loose pages.
Signed by the author on the inside. A previous owner has used a high
lighter on some stuff and made some notes about what was probably his
personal collection in the book. I even saw a few notes that appear to
point out what might be inconsistencies in the typing of specific planes.
Comes with a loose sheet for quickly typing the No. 45 and some info on
prices.

T12 - American Wooden Planes and Their Makers Emil & Martyl Pollak - $5
I think this is the first edition from 1983 of this book that is now up to
the fifth edition. Lots of info on early wooden planes. Obviously less
info than the later editions (it could be argued that the later editions
added makers that are less frequently found so that this is still a good
general field guide), but this one is smaller at about 5 x 8 inches so it is
more portable to take with you. A great guide.

K. Smith - $20
Cover reads Patented Transitional & Metallic Planes in America 1827 - 1927
BY ROGER K. SMITH. A copy of Roger Smiths now out of print edition number
1. A really good book that if you are using to identify what you just got
at a yard sale you know you had a good day. A classic with tons and tons
of great information. No dust jacket and wear to the outside. Very good
over all. Last page has My best to a close friend... Denis written on it

T15 - John Walters Antique & Collectible STANLEY TOOLS Guide to Identity &
Value 1996 - $80
This is THE current bible on the identity and value of antique and vintage
Stanley wood working tools. The values might be a little out of date with
today's market, but it gives you an idea of relative scarcity. This is the
most current edition published in 1996 not as highly sought after as in the
past, but just a great great book. Has 885 pages. Filled with great info
and type studies. In good shape. I don't see any marks or notes on the
inside. If you have any interest in Stanley tools I cannot overstate how
great this book is.

T17 - Large Format Stanley No. 45 Diagram - From 2 /10/1923 -19 1/2 x 15 In.
- $20
This one should probably ship on its own if you get anything else. An
original Stanley chart dated 2-10-23 in lower left corner. Has the
Sweetheart mark on it and shows an exploded Stanley No. 45. It is large at
about 19 1/2 x 15 inches. Back has a yellow sticky note saying it was a
teaching guide used at the Portland ME. School for the Deaf in Manual Arts
from documentation found in attic back in 1920s. Mounted on what appears to
be heavy card board that has information on the back from the River Raisin
Paper Co.. A nice display piece. I think the format of this is larger than
other Stanley charts that I have seen.

T18 - Bell System True Temper Flint Edge - Ax or Hatchet Head - $5
Marked on one side BELL SYSTEM and on the other True Temper Flint Edge.
Based on the names I think this was a Kelly made product but could be the
later owner of the names American Fork & Hoe Company. Has a nail pulling
slot. I have seen many Bell System marked hatchets in the form with the
square wrench hole, but this is the first in this form that I have seen.
Weighs in at just under 1 1/2 pounds. About 3 1/4 inches at the bit and is
about 5 inches long. Edge is dull and chipped so will need a sharpening.
Rear poll is mushroomed so you may want to dress it with a file. Eye is not
deformed. Can go in a Small Flat Rate Box or Parcel Select.

T22 - 6 Stanley No. 60 Chisels Made in USA - $10
6 Stanley No. 60 Chisels Made in USA. The steel in these I have found is
quite good. I cannot say I prefer the balance on these to s No. 750, but
they work well when sharpened up. These are all kind of rough. Some of
them I started to rehab and some still need it. 2 are 1 1/2 inches, 1 is 1
1/4, 3/4, 5/8 and 1/2.

T26 - Defiance By Stanley No. 1219 Eggbeater Drill - $3
The only thing keeping this from being the most mundane drill ever is that
it has a cool mechanism at the top of the handle for bit storage. That is
the differentiating factor from the No. 1218. Single pinion gear. Still
has the side handle. A good one for the kids to use.

T27 - Stanley No. 66 Beader Casting and 1 Blade - $10
You get what you see. The main casting marked Stanley No. 66 Patd Feb 9 86
with the S foundry mark used around the 1890s. You can buy the fences from
Lie Nielsen or you could make you own. Comes with one cutter which is the 2
and 3 bead cutter. No damage and the nickel is decent.

T28 - Shelton Unbreakable Block Plane - $5
Shelton's answer to the Stanley No. 118 unbreakable block plane. Perhaps
the only Shelton plane that it could be argued is slightly better than the
Stanley offering. The depth adjuster is a pin that feeds up from the bottom
of the blade and the blade slot is elongated for manual lateral adjustment.
Blade is marked Shelton and Pat Pend. A decent low angle rough duty block
plane. No damage and in good shape.

T29 - Stanley No. 9 1/4 Block Plane - $5
If the Stanley No. 9 1/2 is too complex for your needs Stanley Made the No.
9 1/4 just for you. It is just like a No. 9 1/2 but without the adjustable
mouth.. Marked No. 9 1/4 on the side. No damage and has most of the
japanning in place. Blade is marked Stanley in notched rectangle over Made
in USA. A good source of parts if not one that you are going to use often.
Good for rougher duty work

Now that I have a Stanley 45, maybe I should think about some
documentation for it!  I'll take T11.

> 6 Stanley No. 60 Chisels Made in USA. The steel in these I have found is

> T28 - Shelton Unbreakable Block Plane - $5
> Shelton's answer to the Stanley No. 118 unbreakable block plane. Perhaps

> of the blade and the blade slot is elongated for manual lateral adjustment.
> Blade is marked Shelton and Pat Pend. A decent low angle rough duty block
