Galoots
Every winter we end up with a veritable avalanche, not of
snow, but of cold weather gear. Hats, mitts, gloves, scarves,
earmuffs. And since there are four of us and everyone has
some of each, it gets a bit unmanageable at times.
So, to help sort out the mess, I set to work in the shop on
the sunday past, to make a stack of cubbyholes to contain
all this stuff. It started as some home centre pine 1X10's.
The case is dovetailed. I used my R. H. Smith "successors to
J. Flint" dovetail saw for this, plus a small paring chisel. The
saw was a $2 garage sale find from years ago, dull, rusty, and
covered in blue paint when I got it. I stripped the paint, filled
the hang hole in the handle, scraped off the rust, and sharpened
it. It's my go-to saw now. The chisel I picked up at the Tools
of The Trade sale a long time back. It cost me like $18 IIRC.
But it is the equal of the best new chisel you can find at $200.
Less then 1/16 inch thick, flexible, and with about a 15 degree
bevel, oh yes it cuts nice, even in mushy old pine.

The shelf dados were cut with a nice old woodie, which
needed only minor fettling. I used a batten tacked onto
the side board, which was a fairly common practice in the
old days.

The dry-fit looks good, but glue-up will wait for an opportunity
when SWMBO can assist with the multiple pieces all at once.

Time to clear the bench and start on a new project.
