Stair gauges. They clamp on a framing square to act as stops when laying out
repeated angles, such as when laying out stair Stringers.  #111, http://www.starrett.com/metrology/product-

And only Starrett could get $43.60 for a few ounces of steel

*engage sarcasm*

Free range, domestically sourced, artisinal steel, semi-finished for the classic
look.

For the extra hint of professionalism, in sun or rain, indoors or out, in a well
lit shop or a dark portico attic space, these bespoke, finely crafted stair
gauges are machined and ground on critical surfaces to exacting tolerances: 16
microinch Ra (0.4 micrometer, ISO N5) for the most critical of layout tasks,
even on wet, warped, and unfinished lumber. Whether you need to hatchet 48
birdsmouth ends on the rafters for your log cabin, or you are just replacing a
stringer on your porch stairs, these are the perfect tool to set the job up.

*sarcasm off*

I got a pair of aluminum knock offs that the seller thought were sliding
window security locks. I wasn’t sure, but knew I had seen them before.

Thanks for all of the quick responses. I think I'll hang onto these- I see
a stair project in my future.
