Stanley
Stanley SW No 3 Type 15 Smooth Or Smoothing Plane. This weighs 3 lbs 3
1/4 oz unboxed. This is a Type 15 and was made by Stanley between 1931
and 1932. This is in reasonable condition. This was cleaned by someone
else but I did some detailing on it. The sides have some frosting,
dings, and light scratches. The sole has some deeper scratches, some
lighter dings, and some frosting. The japanning is original and close
to perfect on the body. The lever cap has some glazing but has most of
the plating. The chipbreaker has some spots of light pitting and
frosting. The SW blade has some patina on the exposed areas and the
back, but the cutting face is clean, although it's not the longest. The
blade will need a sharpening. The tote is one of the aluminum trade
school totes and was polished by the other guy. The knob has some dings
but has most of the original finish. All the screws work and were
oiled. This ain't pristine but it will get the job done. $58.00

Early Stanley No 12 (2) Type 1 4 Inch Traut Patent 1874 Try Square. This
weighs 4 oz unboxed. This is a Type 1 and was made by Stanley between
1874 and 1887. Justus A. Traut of New Britain, CT was granted Pat. No.
151,254 on May 26, 1874 for the design of this tool. This type was sold
as a No. 2 and changed to No. 12 with the Type 2. This is in reasonably
good condition for being at the very least, 132 years old, and was
cleaned. The blade has some frosting and a few spots of light pitting
on both sides but nothing too bad. The hand struck rulings are all
readable and the edges and corners are good. The handle the original
japanning on the insides. There is some funky, glue or something, that
didn't want to come off, but at least it's there. The patent date on
the one pewter joint is readable, the other one has a user nae stamped
in it. There are also 4 very tiny notches filed on top of that side of
the handle for some reason. This is true at least to my way of
thinking. I gotta say, that finding one of these guys in this kinda of
shape, is seriously getting hard to do. $26.00

Stanley SW No S4 Steel Smooth Or Smoothing Plane. This weighs 2 lbs 15
3/4 oz unboxed. This is one of the early models without the raised ring
for the knob. This is in decent condition overall. This was cleaned and
refinished. Read on. The sides have some frosting, scratches, and the
one has some spots of pitting. The sole has some dings and spots of
light pitting. The japanning was pretty much gone so this was repainted
and I prettied up the frog as well. The lever cap has some frosting and
there are couple of small chips at the end. The chipbreaker has some
spots of light pitting. The SW blade also has some pitting at the top
and some lighter patina on the back. The cutting face is clean other
than some frosting and there is lots to work with. The blade will need
a sharpening. The knob has some dings but no cracks that I can see. The
tote is good and is the correct one for this plane. All the screws
work, except for the one that holds the tab for the frog adjuster and
were oiled. This one ain't the prettiest but these guys rarely are. $70.00

Stanley R & L Gage No G35 Transitional Smoother Wood Plane To Restore.
This weighs 2 lbs 10 1/4 oz unboxed. This is in To Restore condition
and was not cleaned. The sides and top still have some of the original
finish but there is some staining on the top. The sole has some
scratches and staining as well. The combination cap and chipbreaker has
some rusting on the back. I did try the two small screws and they do
turn but I didn't have them all the way out. The blade has some pitting
on the front and some rust etching on back. The screw that holds the
piece for the depth adjuster does not turn. The depth adjuster screw
has some light rust but it does work. The knob has some dings but it's
solid. The tote has some trauma. This ain't no thing of beauty but
it's priced belown 1/2 of what a pretty one will set you back and there
is some value in the parts. Just saying. $30.00

Stanley Rule & Level No 101 Model Makers Block Plane. This weighs 4 1/2
oz unboxed. This is in decent condition and was cleaned. The sole is
good other than some light frosting. The japanning is original and
close to perfect on the body, but there are some dings on the sides.
The cap and screw are good. The Rule & Level blade has a few spots of
frosting and staining but it's clean for the most part and there is a
lot left there. This ain't pristine but 100 plus year old planes rarely

perfect save for a few tiny dots of paint. The lever cap has some
glazing and the plating is flaking around the hole. The chipbreaker has
a little frosting. The blade also has some light patina on the exposed
areas and back. The cutting face is clean other than some frosting and
one spot of light pitting up by the slot and there is lots to work
with. The blade will need a sharpening. The tote and knob are painted
hardwood and were refinished. The tote is good and the knob has a
little roughness on the top but it's solid. All the screws work and

Stanley No 3 Type 2 Pre-Lateral Smooth or Smoothing Plane To Restore.
This weighs 2 lbs 9 1/2 oz unboxed. This is a Type 2 and was made by
Stanley between 1869 and 1872. This is in fair condition overall and
was cleaned. The sides have some pitting, most of which is light but
there are a few deeper spots and there is groove filed on the one side.

scratches. The japanning is original and about 50% or so. The solid
back lever cap has some frosting and spots of light pitting. The tote
has the beaded base and is correct. That has a couple of tiny checks
and dings. The threaded rod for the knob does not unscrew from the body
but the brass nut works. The solid back depth adjuster nut has the
Stanley name and patent date but there are some dings on the back. The
rest of screws work. The tote rod is original. This will need a tote,
blade, and chipbreaker. This is what it is, but the parts that are here
are well worth the asking price and then some. $125.00

Jackson By Disston 12 Inch Backsaw. Measuring 16 9/16" overall, the
blade is 12" long, 2 5/8" high (from the edge to the start of the back),
this is sharpened to 14 PT (13 TPI) CC, and this weighs 15 1/2 oz
unboxed. This is in good condition and was cleaned by someone else.
The blade has a few small spots of pitting and a little staining but
nothing bad at all. There are a few spots on the steel back as well.
The edge is straight and this is sharp. The beech tote is close to
perfect other than a little roughness on the lower horn. This ain't
pristine but as these guys go, this one is right fine, and there ain't
too many of these guys around in this kind of shape, cleaned or not.

Two Vintage Socket Firmer Chisels To Restore. The upper one is a 1/4"
Sampson (Union Hardware), measuring 8 7/16" overall, the blade is 6
3/16" long, the lower one is a 3/8", that isn't marked other than some
user initials, measuring 8 7/16" overall, the blade is 6 7/8" long, and
they weigh 6 oz unboxed. These are in reasonably good condition and
were cleaned. The back of the 1/4" has some frosting and a few dots of
pitting but nothing too bad. The back of the 3/8" has some factory
machining marks and some frosted spots. I did clean a little
mushrooming off of the socket on the 1/4", the socket on the 3/8" has
some roughness on the outside but was never hit. Both will need
handles, I don't have any there that fit. These ain't perfect but they
sure ain't ready for gasket scraping duty just yet. $24.00

Vintage Alvin No 910 Germany Drafting Tool Set. There are 2 compasses,
one divider, 2 pens, the beam compass or trammel points with the
extension, lots of parts, and this all weighs 1 lb 11 1/4 oz unboxed.
Alvin is an American company that imports German drafting tools, that
was founded in 1950 and is still in business today. This is in
reasonably good condition and was not cleaned. There is a little rust on
a few of the screw threads and the spinner on the smaller compass has
some light funky, but there is nothing much at all patina wise. All off
the tools do have a user name or initials nicely engraved on them. The
one capsule has pencil lead and the other has spare parts, points and
screws. The case does have some wear to the covering on the corners and
the upper edges but it's solid enough. This ain't perfect but it sure

Small Cast Iron 1 5/8 Inch Swivel Bench Vise. The body is 4 7/8" high,
the jaws are 1 5/8" wide, this will fit a bench top up to 1 1/2" high,
and this weighs 2 lbs 1/4 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. This
is in used but good condition and was lightly cleaned. There are a few
small spots where the finish is worn. The jaws are good other than a
very light casting flaw on the inside of the one. THe jaw screw is a
little stiff but it travels the full distance. The bench clamp and
locking screw for the swivel both work. All the spinner bars have some
light rust but the plating is pretty thin on this. This ain't the

the edge is about 1 7/8" deep and is fairly clean other than some
frosting and a few dots. The eye has some dinging on the inside at the
top but it's solid with no cracks that I can see. This ain't minty but

Heller Bros Toothed Jaw Blacksmith Tongs. Measuring 14 1/8" long, the
jaws are 2 1/8" deep, 7/8" wide at the tips, and this weighs 1 lb 12 oz

is some overall light patina but nothing too bad. The jaws are good
other than a few dings. They close down to about 1/16" but not quite
flush looking from the top. The teeth have some light wear but there is
plenty left. The joint has a little wiggle. The handles are good to
go. This ain't perfect but the Heller reputation has stood the test of

reasonably good condition and was cleaned by someone else. There are
some dots of pitting on the edge of the back and along the edges of the
backs but both are clean for the most part. The inside was never
finished off real pretty like and there still is a little bit of the
original gold paint. The socket has some light pitting but was never
struck. The handle is a well crafted replacement. This ain't pristine
but it sure ain't bad and the Witherby reputation for quality has stood

James Swan No 7 Dowel Or Doweling Bit. Measuring 4 1/4" long, the cut
is 7/16" in diameter, and this weighs 1 oz unboxed. The mark is a

rust staining up around the head. The lead screw and the cutters are

Plumb Hand Forged Straight Jaw Blacksmith Tongs. Measuring 16 1/8"
long, the jaws are 2 1/4" deep, 7/8" wide at the tips, and this weighs 2
lbs 3 1/2 oz unboxed. This is marked on both handles. This is in decent
condition and was cleaned. There is the usual patina found on these
tools. The jaws close tight with the handles crossed. There are a few
bits of welding splash on the jaws and the one has a small chip on the
end. The jaws are lightly grooved front to back. The joint has some
wiggle but it ain't gonna fall apart. The handles are good to go. This
ain't no picture of perfection but Plumb blacksmith tools were every bit

Underhill Edge Tool Co 1/2 Inch Socket Mortising Chisel. Measuring 11
5/16" from the edge to the end of the socket, the blade is 7 5/8" long,
the steel bit is 2 3/4" (read on for more about that), this is 16"
overall (as pictured), and this weighs 1 lb 1/2 oz unboxed. The
Underhill Edge Tool was a Nashua NH tool maker in business from 1852
until 1890. This is in decent condition and was cleaned. The visible
area of the steel bit is good other than a little frosting. The bit is
actually 5 1/4" long, but the iron was split and the steel was inserted
rather than being forge welded along the back. The wrought iron area of
the blade has some frosting and some dings. There is a little chipping
at the end where the socket meets the blade but it's not cracked. I did
take some serious carnage off of the end of the socket but there is
plenty there to hold the handle. That is bulged out a little. The
handle is a working replacement. That has a few checks below the bang
ring, but it's solid enough. I did not seat the handle in tight as it
will make shipping easier and cheaper. This ain't no picture of
perfection but it will get the job done. $26.00

Small German Wood Handle Archimedean Drill. Measuring 9 3/8" long and
this weighs 2 1/4 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker, this marked
Germany on the end. This is in reasonably good condition and was
lightly cleaned. There ain't much in the way of patina to fuss about.
The chuck and jaws are good. This takes small bits that are square at
the end. The shaft is clean other than a little patina down by the
handle. The slider is good. The handle has a few light dings but has
most of the original finish. This works just dandy. This is a neat tool
and one that does not show up very often in this kind of shape. $18.00

Lixie B Dual Purpose Bronze Non-Sparking Hammer. Measuring 12 1/8"
overall, the head is 3 3/4" long, the face is 1" in diameter, the peen

decent condition and was cleaned by someone else. There is some wear to
the finish on the head. Both faces were dressed and are good to go.

Wm Johnson Newark NJ Wood Handle Tapered Reamer. Measuring 5 1/2" long,
the blade is 1 7/8" high, 1 7/16" wide across the top, and this weighs 3
1/4 oz unboxed. The Wm Johnson company was a long time Newark NJ tool
maker. This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned. The back
of the blade has some stained and frosting spots but nothing too bad.
The edges are good. The handle has a few stains but it's solid and the
blade is in tight. This ain't 100% minty but it's sure better than most

E W Carpenter Lancaster PA Marking Gage Or Gauge. The beam is 13 5/8"
long, the head is 2 11/16" by 2 1/2", and this weighs 7 oz unboxed.
Emmanuel W. Carpenter was a plane and tool maker who first worked in
Baltimore before moving to Lancaster PA and was in business from 1828
until 1859. This is in reasonably good condition and was cleaned. The
beam has some dings and light wear but it's straight. The point is
good. The head also has some light wear and there is a thin check on

note the detail work on the head. This is a good looking tool by a very
collectible maker to say the least and considering that it is, at the

Early Hand Forged 18th Century Leather Heading Round Knife. Measuring 7
5/8" overall, 6 11/16" across the top of the blade, 2 1/8" from the
center to the start of the tang, and this weighs 9 oz unboxed. Not
signed as to the maker. This is in decent condition and was cleaned.
There is some overall light patina on the metal. The edge is good. The
forge weld lines are visible where the tang starts but this isn't
cracked. The handle looks to be the original one. That has a couple of
checks and wiggles a little but it won't be falling off any time soon.
This ain't perfect but tools of this age rarely are and this one that
also rarely shows up. This is a leather tool, look at the last image.

Vintage 30 Cal Pepperbox Bullet Mold. Measuring 4 1/2" long when
closed, the cavities are .30 across (according to my mickyometer here),
and this weighs 3 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. This is in
reasonably good condition and was cleaned. There is a little patina on
the body, some frosting and a few dings on the arms, but nothing too
bad. The cavities have a little light rust but that will cook off as
this is used. The hinge is good and this closes tight but there is a
whisker of light showing through when it's closed. This ain't minty but
as these guys go, it sure ain't bad either. $55.00

Leopold Patent 1887 Saw Set or Sawset. Measuring 7 1/4" long and this
weighs 12 oz unboxed. Charles F. Leopold of Philadelphia, PA was
granted Pat. No. 371,268 on Oct. 11, 1887 for the design of this tool
which was made by the The American Manufacturing Company also of
Philadelphia, PA. This is in good condition and was cleaned. There
ain't much in the way of patina to fuss about other than a few dings on
the handles. There is some roughness under the fence but it doesn't
look like it was every finished off real pretty like to start with. The
tip and spring are good. All the screws work and were oiled. This is
not a very common tool to start with and finding one in this kinda
shape, does not happen very often. $30.00

Hand Forged Small Oyster Or Clam Shucking Knife. Measuring 6 15/16"
long, the handle is a little over 7/16" square, and this weighs 4 1/2 oz
unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. This is in fair condition and was
cleaned. There is some pitting on the side of the blade, the other side
not so much, but that's an occupational hazard with these guys. The
handle also has some patina and there are notches filed along the edges
for either decoration or identification. This ain't the prettiest or
the fanciest but these guys sure are getting hard to come by of late. $18.00

Big Early Hand Forged Turnscrew Or Screwdriver. Measuring 10 1/8" high,
8 3/4" wide, the tips are 11/16", 5/8", 7/16", and this weighs 1 lb 7 oz
unboxed. Not signed as to the maker, there are user initials stamped in
a number of places. This is in decent condition and was cleaned. There
is the usual patina found on tools of this age. The one tip was
modified at some point, the other two are original. The joint is good
and tight. This is a neat early tool to say the least. $24.00

long, the tip is about 3/8" wide by 3/16" thick, the handle is 1 1/8" in
diameter, and this weighs 2 lbs 10 1/2 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the
maker. This is in decent condition and was cleaned. There is some
overall patina, staining, scuffs, and dings. The tip has some wear but
it's good to go. The end of the handle had some mushrooming cleaned off
at some point. There are a few dings around the edge. This ain't the
fanciest but these guys sure don't show up very often, at least around
these here parts. $24.00
